Thermalright HR-09 S/U Mosfet Cooler

woot! thermalright are the cooling gods! ive been looking for something like this as i wanted to get the T.Right SLi chipset cooler for my P5B which ment removing the heatpipe resulting in the fets being left uncooled, looks like im going for a whole thermalright cooling setup

how necessary/beneficial is this?

it will be of benefit to those who remove heatpipe NB Coolers. the NB cooler on my asus p5b-d has a heatpipe on it, the finned part at the top of the heatpipe also cools the fets under it. if i was to remove the heatpipe assembly i would be left with very hot fets which control the voltages and essentially end up killing my board

thats not true at all, the 8 phases in P5B-D doesnt run hot and does not need heatsink at all :p Ive been running mine naked for few months and have no problems what so ever. You can tough it to see how hot it is ;)

if that was the case then why did asus (like many other manufacturers) bother to design the heatpipe like that and place a heatsink over the fets.

im not having a go at you, id rather be on the safe side and keep them cooled

Im talking about the P5B series here :p if you look at the P5B-D, only half of the fets are heatsinked, or on the P5B-E/Plus, there nothing on the fets and they run just fine ;) freecableguy (on XS) have measured the temps before and they are only around 40C underload (with no heatsink) IIRC

all those heatpipes are more the looks TBH :)

lol i had to buy really manky waterblocks to cool my mosfet, everything else was too big to fit the cramped position they're place :S still keeps the temps low which is what matters :)
