Thermalright Silver Arrow vs. Noctua NH-D14 vs Fenrir?

Depends really on how high you want to overclock if indeed at all, the performance between them won't be hugely different. The Noctua NH-D14 is widely regarded as the best aircooler, but it is large and pricey. The Silver Arrow is much more affordable and would be fine medium to high overclocks depending on the CPU. I don't know a huge amount aboout the Fenrir but I can't see its performance beating the Silver arrow, let alone the Noctua. I'd suggest reading a few reviews from a decent review site.

If you can't find a stockist for the Silver Arrow, just get the Thermalright IFX-14 and some fans, they are practically the same.

So well I don't think it matters, the silver arrow is cheaper

yup out of those 3 the silver arrow is the better performer, only slightly better then the noctua, but slightly cheaper.

Reviews seem to vary, but considering the Silver Arrow or Thermalright IFX-14 are around £30 and the Noctua NH-D14 is nearly twice the price either of the first two seem like the better value choices. That being said I still think the Noctua would be ideal for someone looking for a silent system as it seems to perform very well with low RPM fans and comes with an expensive fan itself.

The silver arrow is the best beats the noctua only just, the fenrir isn't even in the picture.

But I would get the noctua if I could afford it.

S arrow has one or two niggling issues as pointed out by this guy.

Silver Arrow would do this easily

Mine on a i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz 59C avg under load (4 Ghz no more than 68C max - that's a very rough OC without refined voltages etc)

Mounting issues - fiddly as hell with the stupid spanner. But actually found that I got a better/tighter fit by undoing the pressure plate thing before fitting. Then screwing fixing it to MB mounting. When I used the spanner after it actually got all loose and moved around.!!! Bugger knows why but you can hit it with a Challenger tank now and it won't move!!

Only 2 -3 degrees between the Arrow and the D14 so it's even really and they both run quiet with PWM fans. The 2x140mm fans shown come with the Arrow, are quiet and push a lot of air. Just note that if you don't have a MB with 2 or more 4 pin headers you'll need to get a 2 to 1 4 pin splitter

Silence is a piece of string question.... because it depends on the fans fitted and your own personal perception of what is quiet

Xbitlabs' results differs to OC3D but in my experience both performed very similarly.

Also the Thermalright fans are much better, they are quieter and shift a lot of air.

What you get with Noctua is excellent support and warranty though.

so many different opinions, I'll have to make a decision, tough one...I've been doing this for each component..a nightmare

My noctua can go up to 4.4Ghz below 85C ! Excellent and beauty but I might try 2 x thermalright 140mm 2 fans onto Noctua D14 and use IC Diamond Thermal Compound with a new i7 950 after xmas. Should be interesting.

Or the one that is significantly cheaper... which is why I went with the Silver Arrow when it came to deciding which to get.
