I'm having a bit of trouble installing this.. When I install it, I can never seem to get the spring loaded springs in.. it takes me like 15 minutes and even then I cut myself on the fins >_<

Also, whilst doing this the heatsink is rotating and not staying central from me knocking it slightly from trying to insert the screws. When I eventually do get it installed and boot up the PC i get an "CPU INIT" on the LCD Poster. Im using a Maximus Formula board and a q6600 cpu.

Also.. how tight should you fix the heatsink to the mobo/cpu? I dont want to damage my cpu..

You should have to worry about how tight u do it because the springs stop it from becoming too tight.

And it sounds like your having the same prob i did, its a biggen and it does wobble a little. Are you trying to do it with the motherboard in the case? It sounds like the bracket underneath is falling away from the board and you need to hold it on. Once the screw are in align the cooler and tighten each screw going cross ways (top left, bottom right, top right then bottom left)

As for the cpu init i dont know but i dont think it has to do with the cooler.

its a monkey to get it fitted but once done doesnt half cool well under load!

Keep at it you'll get it on!

Matt.

To get this fitted properly you have to take the motherboard out the of case. Don't worry about doing it up to tight as the screws are only threaded up to a certain point. Also it will wobble a little bit once it has been tightened but that is only with some force. Keep at it, it will be worth it once it has been put on.

Well I fitted it.. put it on my mobo put my mobo in the case and just got a "CPU INIT" on the LCD Poster.. onboard leds flashed once then nothing.. I changed the heatsink to the standard factory one and it worked.. Hmm.. Strange.. i want the Ultra-120 though :(

Check your metal back plate to make sure it's not shorting with the bottom of the mobo, apply a few layers of electrical tape to the back plate if need be.

I agree with IAmATeaf. The plate tht you put underneath the motherboard could be touching the underside of the board and you might have to cover up any metal with some electric tape. The stock coolers dont have tht problem because they use plastic plugs and dont require any screws or backing plates.

And you dont know how annoying it is when you go away to think about something just to come back and see someone else has beaten you to it.

It's a pain, it need not be the heatsink though, your motherboard could be shorting out on any of the screws holding it down onto the case. The lesson is ALWAYS BUILD OUTSIDE THE CASE! Put everything together, switch it on to check it works, and THEN put it inside!

EDIT: oh, btw, don't worry about it turning while you're trying to fit the screws onto the clamp: as long as the heatsink is never LIFTED off of the CPU, then it shouldn't be too much of a problem. All you're doing is spreading the thermal paste around:p
