i have just upgraded my heatsink fan from acf pro 7 to thermalright ultra 120 with s-flex 1200rpm fan,but i haven't seen any improvements in temps with acf pro 7 i was getting 33-36 idle and 58-60 load (orthos) and i am almost getting same temps with thermalright ultra 120.these results are with e4300 overclock to 3.1ghz.When i touch my ultra heatsink after i shut down my pc its barely hot.i have already tried to reseat my heatsink couple of times but with no luck all the time i am getting similar results and for paste i am using AC5.Any help will be much appreciated in advance.

Maybe you should try lapping the Ultra-120.

Do you have a side fan on the Antec 900 case? and in which direction do you have the heatsink pointing back or up?

See the other threads on the Ultra-120. They normally need lapping as they're not finished properly in the factory. What you're seeing is that the Ultra-120 is great at getting rid of the heat transferred to it but doesn't take enough of it in the first place.

Hi, and lapping would probably give you about 1-5 degress less temperature. I'm not sure you are going to get a lot of temp difference anyway, the AC is a excellent cooler, just very noisy, which the Ultra 120 isn't if you use a good fan...

Heatsink is pointing to back and i don't have side fan becasue heatsink is too big,its nearly touching side case door.

thanks for the info, I have an Antec 900 and was thinking of getting an Ultra-120.

I've found that with the 900 case it's best to have the airflow of the heatsink going up through the 200mm fan.

I'm currently using a Thermalright Ultima-90i with a sflex 1600rpm fan on a Q6600 and getting 26 on idle and 56 on load, and I have lapped the heatsink as there was a 10c difference between cores. Now down to 2-3c difference.

Hey Marmalizer, You have the Heatsink that I am considering purchasing. Is it as difficult to install as people say i.e it swivels on the brace? I would appreciate any information you caould give or even screenshots OMG think I may wee :D

I have a thread here somewhere... let me find it. Nice temps BTW :p

Sorry to hijack@the OP.

The heatsink was easy to install, had to remove the motherboard to get the backplate on. As with all Thermalright heatsinks it seems.

It did swivel but that was due to the convex of the base of the heatsink, as soon as I lapped it the temps dropped and it stopped swiveling. To get a 120mm fan on is a bit awkward for the first time but you get the knack of it quickly.

It also clears my Abit IP35 Pro heatsinks and the ram with about a fingers worth of space between the two.
