My Ultra 120 was delivered this morning, so i fitted it put the mobo back into the case etc. and it wouldn't boot (no beeps at all) at first i thought i had damaged the mobo when fitting, but then i thought i would put the stock cooler back on to see if it would make a difference. After fitting the stock back on the computer booted first time.

Has anyone got any ideas as to whats stopping it booting? I think it may be the backplate shorting out on the case (Lian-Li V1000+)

Shorting would be my first guess as well. I had a similar problem with my Tuniq and DS3, and I think they have the same back plate. I solved it my applying a few layers of insulating tape to The Backplate and the back of the mobo, and it's been stable ever since.

Brilliant! Thanks a lot im off to give it a go, i'll let you know wheter it worked or not. :)

Doesn't the backplate have a square of insulating foam on it so that it won't make direct contact with the back of the mobo?

Yeah it has but it seems that the back of the CPU socket pushed throught and made contact with the metal:( A few layers of tape later and it works fine :) Thanks a lot steve your a star:)

Glad you've sorted it out, what's the performance like?

Also while you have the mobo out you couldn't measure from the top of the mobo to the top of the cooler, including the protruding heatpipes for me could you? I'm thinking of getting this same cooler but am unsure as to whether it'll fit my Lian Li PC6089B case as the case has a side window which takes away from some of the internal height available.

What do you want me to measure, from the heatsink to the top of the mobo above the cpu socket or the height of the cooler from the mobo?

Its back in the case now but ill stick a tape measure in and have a look for you, just let me know which measurement you need:)

Edit: Performance is great tbh, its sat at 28oC now @2.66ghz 1.26v, ill just hit 100% on tat...42/43oC 100% load in TAT but your results will depend on the fan you use and your room temp (quite cold in here)

Yes the height of the cooler from the mobo, this should then tell me if it'll fit my case if not then I think I'll have to get the Noctua as it's a few mm shorter.

just measured it and its 16.5cm from the mobo to the top of the cooler(including the pertruding heatpipes) Hope that helps :)

Cheers for that, going to open up my case and do some measuring, does the Ultra easily clear the NB cooler by the way?

Depends which cooler you have on really ive got a zalman flower type mb cooler and the fan on the ultra 120 is almost touching it, so its not the best for nb clearence :(
