I've been trying to tax my new bike and the overall impression I'm getting is that they are deliberately trying to make it hard.

Couldn't get dealer to tax it as Post Office wouldn't accept a faxed copy of my insurance certificate.
Couldn't tax it on the day I picked it up as it was a Saturday and all the Post Offices are shut after 12:30.
Couldn't tax it online as there is a change of keeper in progress and it won't let me.
Couldn't tax it this morning at my local Post Office because it's now been closed.
Couldn't tax it at lunch time as the Post Office near my work doesn't issue Road Tax.
Walked to DVLA office which has moved.

I'll have to drive to the main Post Office in my home town to get it done.

Just a rant.

bugger, are bikes different to cars? With a car the dealer can tax a car with his trade insurance policy.
I feel your pain by the way- I've had similar problems when buying new cars. Sometimes (tut tut) I have resorted to just driving the thing home without tax but obviously insured and MOT'd. Not that I'm suggesting that is a good idea.

ironic that the other day driving home, the news was that, iirc, 40% of bikes aren't taxed.

I read that too, I know plenty of bikers and every single one pays road tax.

They were saying that it's due to people using bikes for half the year, and storing them for the other half, and not using a SORN.

Plus I'm sure you don't socialise with the sort of people who don't pay road tax

Most of those are probably scooters and 125s owned by ****** though.

I had a similar problem when I bought my car - was without Tax for a few days after I bought it, but certainly wasn't for a lack of trying.

Same. There was an analysis of this stat in MCN the other day, As stated by Ben M, they came to the conclusion that they were using the stats for SORN bike.

No, most of those will be bikes that have sat at the back of someones garage for the last five years, sensationalsit news report? surely not!

You have to remember bikers are scum that eat babies in their spare time :rolleyes:

Always get dealer to tax my bikes for me, as soon as I know I am buying bike I get insurance sorted then have insurance covernote before bike is ready to collect.
