Anyone know much about Turkey, specifically Antalya? I'm going out there for a week at the end of March for the solar eclipse.

Any tips on good food, beer, places to go and see, what to watch out for, appreciated. :)

A large selection that you can see in Anatalya, as for drinks you will find the national beer is Efes Pilsen. As for food you will find plenty of cafe's and places that serve excellent food.

What to watch out for, some pickpocketing issues in the main areas of attractions, obviously being a tourist you will be ripped off by a majority of things such as tickets etc. A bigger problem might be faced with being bullied by tourist touts etc.

Also a common problem for tourists, you will notice that people stare at you when you visit the poorer areas of Antalya.

Enjoy the eclipse.

i have been 2 times in 2002 , not for tourism though so my knowledge of the city is somehow limited. There is a bazaar in the northern part of the city where you can find lots of cheap stuff, restaurants are to the east side close to the anecient walls and i would suggest to select careful , cause i have had a bad experience with probably bad kebab :p . There are also some bars overlooking the port but they play mostly turkish tunes.

Not sure about the variety of beers but the dominant beer , Efes , is almost certainly the most disgusting brew known to man :D

Other holiday destinations the friend who told me went to, namely
Morocco, Thailand, Malaysia, Dubai,

We have Greeks going over to Turkey with small boats to buy stuff as they are so much cheaper there, as long as you don't do the proper tourist stylee you should be ok.

interesting, is eating out, travelling etc expensive then?

how much is it typically

3 course meal is typically a 10YTL for 2 people, general shopping is really cheap.

Apart from buying cars (most expensive items), electronics/electrical stuff is expensive, buying property is likely to be cheaper than buying a car.

Travelling: 20 pounds from Istanbul to Mersin (900km journey), mini buses are extremely cheap.
