While out today having a look at the Skoda Fabia VRS's, I was quite impressed, however the interior is very tatty and rattly...

So I popped down to the SEAT dealer, and saw the new Ibiza FR 1.9 TDI 130. What a machine! Same performance as the great VRS, but with a better interior, better looks, better seats and climate control for only £500 extra...

Anyone any opinions? I really am close to ordering!

A lady at our work has one of those as a lease car, I get to drive it when i'm working out and about if i ask nicely... have to say i really like it, engine is great, handling is good, seats are nice, interior good, its much much nicer than the fabia vrs imo :p if thats the sort of thing your after i say go for it, its a really nice car

I got rid of my Ibiza a month ago and had nothing but problems with it, rattling windows (had it fixed a couple of times but still rattled), misting lights, gear stick broke after a week, passenger arm rest popped off, rear suspension sqeaking (like stepping on a mouse), broken seat base (drivers) which had an awful creeking noise everytime i moved and lastly the rear washer pipe cracked and screen wash flooded the boot

Got rid of it and now am a proud owner of a CTR :D

Weren't you looking at CTR's the other week? Bit of a difference, for me it would have to be the Skoda.

Neil.

I reckoned the vRS interior was better built than the equivalent Ibiza, although the Ibiza's was probably a little nice to look at. :)

I looked at both the Vrs and FR 130. Decided to get the Vrs and there is not a single rattle from anywhere. I thought the same about the interiors but after driving the Vrs I realised that I didn't look at the dash ( which at first I didn't like, but it grew on me) when I was driving.

Have a look at www.briskoda.net for more info on the Vrs.

Was it a new or used Vrs you were looking at?

Yeah I just cant decide.

Basically I want something newer, as I couldnt be bothered with MOTS, out of warranty repairs etc. I dont like the Skoda VRS's interior at all, I couldnt live with it.

I now dont have a clue what to get. Can anyone advise me on a good, quick car, with cheap insurance?

Id like something special, but dont want to have a headache mainting it!

Budget? What do you need in a car?
Didn't Seat do a 160bhp diesel Ibiza? I haven't driven one but they're supposed to be bloody quick. If you're worried about warrany and repairs you could buy an approved used car. I bought my Toledo as an approved used car and have been really impressed with the customer service. Don't be afraid of a car which is around one year old. You'll get a car with two or more years warranty, one that will have any niggles from new fixed (hopefully), and it will have taken the initial hit in depreciation meaning you can either save a few grand or get a much higher specced motor.

Also, unless you are going to do high miles, don't discount the Ibiza or Leon 20VT. They're quicker than the diesels (180bhp) and are generally a hell of a lot cheaper.

Looking at the approved search on www.seat.co.uk the cheapest Ibiza Cupra TDI's they have on a 55/06 plate is £13495 which you could easily bargain down to below £13k. Most of the cars have 5k or less miles and are pretty much just run in. From what I can see on their site

Ibiza Cupra TDi (160bhp I think)- £13.5k
Ibiza Cupra 20VT (180bhp) - 54 plate £11k - 55 plate £11.5k
Ibiza TDi FR (130bhp) - 54 plate £9995 +

Check out the used car search on that site. Some of the cars have only 50 miles on the clock yet have taken a big hit in depreciation because their plate is slightly older.

I looked at both and chose the vRS, I thought the interior build quality was better than the SEAT.

IF you're prepared to get an A4, why don't you go one better and get a BMW 330i. They're excellent cars with an excellent engine and your budget should get you something 3-4 years old. I don't know a great deal about them so I'll leave someone who knows more to fill you in on the details but having driven a 330i I was VERY impressed.

You think so? I just couldnt get on with the VRS interior.... it just seemed so 90's inside. The SEAT is far from great inside, but I felt the seats were more comfortable and the interior a lot nicer..

If you've got this budget then there are much better performance cars you could buy. Unless your doing 30,000 miles a year then really no sense in buying the diesel over the petrol counterpart in the seat.

You could get loads for your money and an ibiza or vrs would not be on my list.

BMW dude.

plus the 130 bhp seat can be chipped to 170 i believe and at that they push out massive amounts of torque! :D
still with 35-40 mpg!!

i had the 150gttdi golf and it was awesome. chipped to 190! these diesels are good..

audi a4 though..mmm very nice, my wife has the a6 quattro, if you get an audi, get the quattro they are sooo worth it!
is this a family car??

you could get the tdi audi in your budget, again if you get the 2.5tdi quattro you get a very good car that again responds very well to a chip, up to 270bhp i think!

Any idea what chipping the Vrs and FR engines to 180ish does to relibility?
