x reg 5 door golf 1.6 se..

55000 miles, full vw service history. bodywork and interior in good condition. MOT until september 2010.

Do you think it's worth the £1700 asking price?

Seems a lot to me.. at the end of the day, it's a 10-year-old not-very-fast hatchback, do you really want to spend nearly £2k on it?

As fox says insurance just levels out to £500 or less once you get over 21 let alone 38 the change in cost between a group 4 car and a group 18 is only £200 per year for me at 21

this is just for a run around so i dont want a high performance money pit..

A mondeo/focus will cost less to run than the golf, be more reliable, give you more for your money and will generally be a better car

Seems like a deal to me. I paid almost double that for a like model 18 months ago with partial history and more mileage...

Thread contains high levels of car ignorance.

Explain?

Ahh, apologies then for suggesting a Mondeo or a Focus. For a run around I suggest a nice Fiat Cinquecento.

Mondeo's and Focii are awful cars. Build quality is generally substandard. Sorry if this upsets you but thats my take on things. A chiquechonk is too small and even worse in the build quality stakes.

Could you expand on that? I don't follow your line of thinking...
