Well rather than constantly borrowing my mother's camera and confusing her by changing the settings, i'm thinking about getting myself a Christmas present. Having a quick browse i'm surprised to see a large selection of 10MP, 3x Optical Zoon digital camera's around £70 on Amazon. Are any of them any good, as in would any of them make a nice little first 'serious' camera? If so, which one? If not - what else?

Thanks for any help :)

No.

Don't get hung up on specs. Just buy a quality branded camera. Is £70 your budget? You might need to throw a bit more money at it for a half decent compact... Canon ixus 95?

Don't really have a budget, just looking around at the moment...

By 'Quality Branded' what do you mean? Because the one's i mentioned are Sammy, Cannon, Fujifilm etc.

I did a lot of research for an xmas pressie and from my research the Samsung ES55 is one of the best, if not the best sub £100 Digi cam

Not really, it's just a good cheap camera, by no means 'bad', but there are bargains to be had if you look around.

The Canon IXUS range is very good, and not like some cameras at the price, being all bulky, and for maybe £115 or so, the IXUS 95 is a brilliant camera. Depends what you'll use it for really, if you just want a camera, so you have one...the ES55 is probably fine.

Brand wise, you can't really go wrong with Canon, Panasonic, and Fuji, are probably the best for compacts.
