I have a Fiesta Si 1.6 16v 1995 (M Reg), Love it to death, as going from a 999cc MK3 fiesta to this was quite a jump in performance.

Only thing is, I'm fed up with Ford's after driving them for the last year and a half, and this car eats up way to much petrol.

The old Fiesta's a prone to rusting big time also. It's got some small rust on the door panel as you can expect from a car of this age, but nothing serious. (Wheel arches are fine)

Bonus is that this car drives like a beauty and has only 57k on the clock.

What could you reccomend me that would be nice on the petrol and still nippy in n out of city traffic.. I was thinking about buying a jap car next.

Also what do you think the car's worth on the description i've given?

Well, there's a lot of 1997-1998 Fiestas going for £1200, but they're the 1.4, 1.25 16v models, not the 1.6.

So I'd say you're looking around on a budget of £1500 - £1800... give or take.

For this you're in Ka, Saxo and 106 territory. The only car that fits your brief though would be a Toyota Yaris, but they go for more on the £2k side of things on a 1999 T plate. There are also the older Civics, but they wouldn't be the best on fuel.

How much do you really think he will get for a 11 year old Fiesta, Id say £600 max, plus a few hundred more = around £1000.

I see :(

I was slightly wrong though, a Fiesta RS Turbo or possibly XR2i would be worth more.

A 1.6Si you might be able to push up to £700 (judging by autotrader prices), but it would have to be relatively low milage, and as I said, mint.

I'll say Citroen Xsara before anyone else does. :D

I think you may be able to get a little more than £600 for your car because of the low mileage. I've seen the same car on AutoTrader for around £800 but that might be a bit optimistic.

I got my Si for £350 but it wasn't/isn't in a very good condition - hoping to get rid of it aswell - so I doubt i'll get much for it.

Another suggestion, Renault Clio?

Honda Jazz - Very nice cars.

They are great cars, until you have to drive them. Very cleverly designed interior, with a quality that is miles better than most competing cars. Also very frugal. My mother is on her second and gets 55mpg.
Having said that, not the smoothest ride quality and steering that it's worsened by a Cupra Type R, truly NASTY steering.

Personally I'd suggest a Micra. Pig ugly to look at, but also very cleverly designed and actually quite pleasant to drive.

He could probably just about get a Micra 1.6 Super S for his budget.

A WHAT now? And even if you mean CIVIC Type R, what exactly does your comment mean

I was trying to make two points:
1. I have found the ride quality in the Jazz to be rather brittle and fidgety. It's not terrible, but far from great.
2. I absolutely hate the steering in the Jazz. Simply no feeling at all, no self centreing worth speaking of. The only car I've driven which I disliked the steering more on was the LCR that I tried. That had all the hallmarks of the Jazz, but then also suffered from torque steer (IMO). Yes the LCR is a very fast car in a straightline, but I hated the steering, plain nasty.
The CTR in comparison is miles better (IMO), despite not being that great in feel either, and is as good a front wheel drive hot hatch as exists.
Just remember that I'm a real wheel drive person at heart.

***Newsflash*** A Car with 225bhp through the FRONT wheels torque steers.

The steering is far fron nasty however.

EDIT: And for the record, I drive a Jazz at work a lot of the time, they share absolutely no similarity in steering AT ALL.

With all due respect, we're all allowed opinions.
I've stated quite categorically that the above were my views. Clearly you dissagree, and that's cool. We're both allowed to have different opinions.
Please lets try to keep the statements as "in our respective opinion".

The Jazz steering is just too light and has no feedback whatsoever.

The ride is nice but I get seasick in the back with my mum driving (She's mental).

The only beef with handling is the ESP which stiffens up the suspension and pumps the breaks according to the driving conditions. Very scary when it kicks in, don't like driving aids at all.

I based the price assumption of the fiesta on a Auto Trader search result in my area.

We're all a bit anal and quick to judge in here aren't we. The point in hand is that the guy wants an opinion, and individual opinion on what to do next in terms of his car situation. Not a whore fight and forced opinions.
