thinking about setting up cctv

Seriously, don’t leave things in the car, leave it locked and don’t waste money on CCTV unless you really have a major problem with vandals. Oh and tell the police about the incident.

OP you're calling someone an idiot when you write a hazey at best post and dont even write the topic properly... and the fact you left a car with an unsecured since the boot wouldnt close properly.. seriously?
Dont buy the CCTV, you're best off saving the money and putting it towards some common sense.

the iPod has no insurance not the car you idiot, dont make assumptions. Also we dont know why the alarm didn't go off, obviously its not active if the boot is open, she obvioulsy didnt notice it wasnt open at the time until this morning.

It's not just to stop stuff getting stolen, its about finding out who is doing it... christ

That time of month? you do not need CCCTVCTV it will be a complete waste. If it hasn't happened before then it was probably some opportunist who saw the boot was open and helped them self to ipod.

For all of you saying "dont leave valuables in the car" everyone does.. from sunshades to £3k worth of sound system equipment.

And again, the boot wasnt left open intentionally, it was only till the morning that she realised what must have happened.

And the CCTV isn't my idea, it was my parents because our car isnt the only one that has been broken into.

Why exactly are people telling me to get common sense? The only thing that was done wrong here is someone not realising a door wasn't closed properly... and you people start calling me an idiot etc... I'm not the one who needs common sense :)

I don't.

on the other hand though, that £600 figure someone quoted sounds reasonable, but I have no idea or experience

If it's the latter you need clear warning signs around your property

Only if the field of view encompasses private property such as the gardens of other houses.
If the camera only covers your property, public footpaths or public highways you'll be fine.

It is pretty much the same for photographers.

Thankyou I had always wondered, I dont live there anymore but its handy for all to know :)
