Hi,
Im in the process of deciding whether to buy a new laptop or not. I want it for gaming/word processing/browsing the internet/watching videos.

This is the one I had in mind:

Is there a considerable difference between the one in the link above and the MSI GX740.

I will be hoping to play quite a lot of games on this. Will it be able to handle them on decent settings.

Is it very upgradeable as well. Can I swap bit out as it gets outdated?

Thanks for the help and sorry if the questions are a bit dumb.

EDIT:
I when gaming I will probably run it off a 23inch 1080p monitor, does this have a hdmi port.

1) It's 15''. IMO a better form factor. It's 1080p versus 1050p, but 1050p might be better on a 17''. It also has USB 3.0 and 500GB in RAID 0 (much faster), effectively 1TB drive. There could be some difference on the cooling setup, one being more efficient that the other. Bigger form factor usually gives more room for better cooling.

Note that the screen resolution isn't that big of a deal if you're gonna plug in an external monitor (the resolution will be of that monitor).

2) Yeah, the HD 5870 is close to the top in terms of laptop graphics cards, if you're not looking at SLI. It'll play any games in high settings comfortably.

3) Not sure about that. Usually, laptops aren't great at upgrading. You can realistically look at the hard drives, the memory, the optical drive (bluray) that's about it. You can probably replcace one of the hard disk with a SSD later, that will require a full re-install. It 'may' be possible to change the processor, but that would be close to a ghetto-mod (meaning, DIY, risky and could be messy).

4) all laptops have HDMI ports nowadays :) But yes confirmed in the specs.

there is a massive thread on these already which will have some helpful insights for you

yes you can upgrade most parts: ie , ram, HD, CPU etc people have done this already..
