Hi,

I`ve been thinking of getting a Credit card for a little while now for use on my holiday to Spain next year, and for general purchases here & there, other than that just emergency use etc.

Ive read through Moneysavingexpert.com guide and had a look on moneysupermarket also just to add.

Would it be a good idea for me to get a 0% on purchases card (MSE recommended the M&S &more card) for the above usage?
I mostly want to know if useing the CC would be ok in Spain, and what sort of fee`s I could expect from buying things over there useing the CC?

Apparently CC`s are more secure/protected than debit cards is also a factor in this decision, does this hold much truth?

Thanks for any help.

Legally, you have a lot more protection from illegal usage of your credit card, than you would if someone pinched your debit card.

I'm not sure about oversees charges though, tbh i doubt that you would get charged for it, seeing as Mastercard/Visa are accepted worldwide.

Never seen any charges for purchasing stuff on tinternet with my credit cards, i'd imagine same rules apply for shop purchases.

I would recommend not to get one unless you are 110 % sure your not going to abuse it. I'd for you or anyone for that matter to end up like I did .

Just remember anything you buy on it you WILL have to pay it back sooner or later plus the ultra high APR

I have my credit card set up with a direct debit to my bank account and the full amount goes out each month. I find it is a great way of making sure you spend what you have and not how much credit you have.

If you are just using it for emergencies then you shouldn't have any worries. Credit cards are only evil when you decide you can afford that 3 grand telly and 12 grand car when you really, really can't.

I am, dont worry, Im allways keeping an eye on my funds.

As I said, its mostly for use in Spain due to the better protection, emergancy situations and possibly the odd purchase here & there which I may need to spread the cost of (nowhere near a 3k telly or 12k car!).
