Thinking of getting a day-to-day car, opinions?

If you like the c30 why not look at the s40 or v50. Identical dash , seats etc
But really for your criteria you would be mad not to go with mondeo.
They are nice cars and as previously said comfortable and roomy and practical

Thats a Mk5?

So it is, very late one at that. You can get a Mk6 TSI for sub £9k, but the spec is pretty poor compared to a £7/8k mondeo.

Value for money from the mondeo is a lot better, looks better, is more practical and I can see why you all recommend it.

Only thing that really lets it down is the economy (The petrol head in me wants to ignore that fact, but my head says otherwise!)

Now, to get a test drive...

Edit: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201211457037549 seems like a decent ballpark car, thoughts?

Think you need a proper drive of both, I would be very surprised if the 120 tsi could do any better at motorway speeds. Been wrong before though, that's why you should check for yourself

Well i've been doing lots and lots of research, looking at cars (no test drives yet - no time) but I've pretty much (but could be swayed) narrowed it down to the 2.0L Petrol of either the Mondeo or S40.

The smaller <~2L diesels are all common rail and from comments I remember on this very forum they seem to be the engines to avoid.

If I find a D5 within budget I might be swayed.

Can someone clarify the trim levels for the Mondeo, at what level does parking sensors and cruise control become standard?

I keep getting conflicting info :(

I believe it's the Ghia and Ghia X for the Mk3 for cruise, but that's not a fact, just my memory.

I had a 2.0 Mk3 LX (02 plate, so pre-facelift) and I can't fault it. Neither can the guy who I sold it to - it's now gone through 3 services/MOTs (60-80k) and has had nothing more than sparks, windscreen wipers and a windscreen washer motor to show for it. Tremendous car.

With your budget, you could get a fantastic Ghia X, which will be an absolute pleasure for doing your miles in. Doesn't win any "cool points", but you're unlikely to regret it.

I can't give any views vs the S40 I'm afraid since I know nothing about it!
