Hello all,

Thinking about getting the ASROCK + a PCI card.

Few questions though. Is this board likely to be outdated anytime soon? I take it its an nforce board meaning no crossfire?

Are there any drawbacks of the included AGP slot? is it slower when compared to a all PCI system?

Im currently running an 3000+winnie and 9800pro.

Thanks

hi,

its not nforce think its uli chipset.

very nice mobo, i like mine.

there have been some issues with agp performance mentioned, but mine runs ok tbh.

if you';re going pci-e for the gfx as well i'd go for something a dfi pci-e mobo, the asrock is best used as a stepping stone from xp chips/agp gfx card to a64 chips and pci-e gfx, to help make the cross over upgradeable over time, so asrock and a64 processor then pci-e gfx card then pci-e mobo etc imho.

I see. Thanks for replys.

TBH im quite happy with my current sig. I think Im better of waiting for better hardware and prices to decrease before I upgrade - that way im likely to see a reallt big increase over my curent rig.

Thanks

You will always be waiting for prices to fall though.

Don't know what rig you have at the moment but the Asrock with an overclocked opty or 3700 SD will probably be a big improvement over what you currently have.

The Asrock will even have a daughter board available to take AMD's new M2 chips when they come out.

You can't get much more future proofing than that these days. :)

That is a good point. I remember saying to myself I would upgrade 6 months ago but never did due to better prices/hardware in the future.

Do you mean I would need to buy a new board for it support M2 chips? or will a BIOS update be all thats requires? (I dont know the pin layout on the M2's)

Thanks

the am2 socket is 940 pins so a daughter board will be needed for the asrock.
the asrock is 939.

Ad no one knows how well this will perform and it would also look a bit daft IMO.

asrock will probaly bring out a budget am2 mobo that will only be a bit more than the daughter board anyway.

But quite frankly to go out and buy a daughter board you might aswell get a new am2 mobo if going down the am2 route.
