I used to play WoW but since the new expansion my druid just isnt the same so i have pushed that out of my life deleted my files and tried to forget the years of my life i have wasted on that game instead of having a life.

so to celebrate me getting rid of my WoW addiction i am looking for another to take its place, im thinking either Rift, DC univers or final fantasy, i mean i still play ff7 on my playstation but i dont know if i want to dissapoint myself by just having it ruined for me and after playing city of heroes and not being overjoyed by that will DC really have that much more to offer and from what i can gather asside from being abit prettyer than WoW Rift is essentially the same game but what do you guys think?

I was going to wait untill the old republic but after me and a friend from work spent almost an entire night reserching it we came to the conclusion that it is going to be a catastrophic **** up because they just want too much from it.

I do so need some advice and input so feel free :)

I just started Rift after 3 years on and off playing wow, and I'm impressed so far. It feels like a similar game, yet still manages to be unique (I know that probably sounds daft!)

The UI and hotkeys, for example, feel incredibly similar, yet you know its clearly trying to be a different game too. It means its very easy to jump straight into Rift, and soak up all the goodness! The class system is a massive improvement in my opinion, though the amount of customization is confusing at first :p

And if you like your character looking pretty, you can dye your armor (something I've seen suggested a million and one times for wow on forums)

well the keys from an mmo are pretty much standard now i think which is a good thing after i played everquest once and allmost ragequit and destroyed my keyboard!, i just dislike having to buy a game for a full 29.99 or more then pay online which is why i want to decide carefully what to do, and seriosally my gf might live away at uni but if she found out i did that it would be more than my lifes worth.

ive seen a couple of videos of rift and it does look really really good im just, i duno hessitent i gues. and when it comes to customization and the start of games nothing can be more confusing that city of heroes surely!

I've been thinking the same. I used to play Guild wars and age of conan heavily. I tried to get back into age of conan, but without my old guild. I find it not worth while any more.

Rift is probably my next move to try, gonna leave it a few weeks though. Guild Wars 2 is the one i'm waiting for :)

I never could get into WoW...

i must have bought guild wars so many times but could never bring myself to play it for more than a few days, a friend on here used to play it all the time and tried to get me into it but i wasnt havning any of it, it was just one of those that didnt feel right!

Im all forr a pokemon mmo tbh!

This is one of the funniest things I have read here. Sounds something like: I have been smoking cigarettes for ages now, but decided it's not good for me and bad for my life. To celebrate I am thinking of starting to smoke cigars. Any you can recommend guys? I heard Cuban ones are nice

On a separate note, I say wait for old republic :p

Lol, agreed that's just what I was going to say. It does seem odd the OP saying 'tried to forget the years of my life I have wasted on that game instead of having a life' and then in the next sentence asking what game can you play instead  How is playing another MMO having a life unless it's a waste of a life playing WoW but not a waste of a life playing any other MMO?

It might be worth spending a night researching some.

In the past I've listened too much(and then i've wasted a lot of money, silly me) to people who build up the release of a mmo then play it for the first week and say its amazing, soon after the thread disappears, they pop back on the forums talking about what mmo is worth trying next.

My advice, download all the mmo with similar interfaces to wow and choose which one you want to waste your life with.

i think its a bit too early to pick up Rift, ive been stung with other new MMO's in the past only for it to flop a few months in.
i would also suggest you give some more thought to star wars as the beta was fantastic.

I think if ya not sure about star wars you should wait and see what that's like :) but rift looks so polished and fun :) and if ya like character creation rift is wicked lol

Right now, Rift is probably the best option. GW is worth a play through if you want to get the HoM rewards (complete stuff in GW1 = exclusive unlocks in GW2).

I'm holding out for GW2 while working towards my GW1 rewards.

@morguk - no release date announced yet. Expecting CBT around May time, so maybe a release in autumn/winter, but that's all just speculation.

I'd vote GW but it might be a bit late to really start it now.

I've heard some good things about Rift from 1 of my steam friends (an old GW guildmate).

Think DC is a far far better game than Rift, Rift will appeal to all the wow players as its quite similar just a lot blander.

DC on the other hand for me is quite different to any other mmo now.

Well my gut reaction has always been that this will be awesome, I think it's worth waiting for.

If the OP has got a passing interest in the Star Wars universe(I think its the best fictional universe bar none), then it makes it all the more worth while to wait.

If the release dates mentioned are anywhere close to accurate, then I recommend the OP do some light exercise in preparation before it comes out.

Rift has launched well. Really good game. Similar enough to WoW (ui layout and interface/key map wise) that you could adapt without too much hassle. The rift system and pvp are good and the public grouping for the rift/invasion makes it easy to enjoy without spending ages looking for groups. Haven't tried dungeons though, pvp interests me in this one :D
