What current CPU do you have , as if you've got say a 1st/2nd gen i5 you might want to think of jumping to the 6 core i5 8400 or i5 8600k which should show you an increase in performance.
If your rocking 3rd gen might want to fink about getting a 2nd hand i7 K chip .
Also the thought of Ryzen too for price to performance value

If you were going.to then adding 6700/7700k would be the logical choice as they'd last you longer then the i5 K versions .

Worth seeing if your currently bottlenecking your system and if so by how much . If you've to a got powerful card, try upscaling .

It should cope with pretty much all games fine at 1080p, what sort of issues are you having? Low fps in some game?

Also bear in mind some graphics settings are barely noticeable, if noticeable at all when going from high to ultra, other than hitting your frame rates.

Would be the i5 running at 2.7ghz .

A quick solution is normally whacking everything up to ultra to get the GPU working harder or upscaling a bit.

OP you'll need to view your CPU/GPU usage in games . That way you'll be able to see if the i5 locked at 2.7ghz is the problem

Yeah it does boost upto 3.3. I’ve been playing abit of fortnite and if I go into task manager I can see I’m using like 80-90% cpu and with other background processes it’s some times at 100% cpu

What are your frame rates like though?
If temps are good and frame rates smooth, it doesn't really matter if the CPU is running at near capacity.

I get between 80-100 fps in fortnite. But it’s destiny 2 I get low fps when I do public events on planet Titan I get dips below 50 but normally in story missions or pvp I get over 100fps.

Sounds about correct.. And sounds generally playable.

You'd really need to upgrade both cpu and gpu to eliminate the odd frame rate dip, especially if you want to play at 144hz and or 1440p.. but obviously that's expensive.

Exactly and with it being Black Friday was thinking I could maybe get a deal on a cpu and then in the near future try getting a 1070ti or 1080 maybe? But just not sure what cpu I should try going for really?
