My wife works at Novartis much like I do. She's an Admin Specialist within Oncology Research.

It's very hard to get your foot in the door here, even as an admin. She knows it's an admin role, she was like it's not hard but scope to bust ass and climb up. Previously spent 6yrs in the NHS in the UK, and prior to that was working at Proctor & Gamble as well as Llyods as customer service rep. She has no degree, worked from when she was young.
Since she's been in this role (1.5yrs) she has busted ass, and taken on another persons role as they moved to look after someone directly (as an Exec Ass.) and really does a great job. She said last year to her boss that she was aiming for the next step up as Admin Expert this year, which was acknowledged and written into objectives for the year. She's just had her 1:1 with her manager who said it wasn't going to happen as it can take years to climb up... yet her counter part (who moved to be an EA) was made the same expert from specialist after a year. She raised this and got told "but she has qualifications..."
I was fuming when I read it, I mean, wtf degree do you need to do admin and WTF does it make a difference if you're excelling at the role? Her manager can be a complete dick and does **** all (I've known her manager about 8yrs since starting).

I just wanted to ******* rant basically. There is so little loyalty in places, everyone is just a sly **** who just cares about licking the ass of their boss and the politics.

Arghh.

Oh, and we have found another house, waiting to hear from the architect on this one and see if we can build what we'd like...

Couple of interesting things from yesterday. Apart from spinning plates like a MF, I had a really interesting meeting with a guy from the energy sector who deals in solar power networks and they have created a p2p microgrid type networks using LoRa sensors to create a mesh network and not rely on GSM due to remote locations. Each node on this network will produce power (could be a house, lamppost, business etc.) through solar panels and then some will consume (houses and businesses). If you create 1000KW per day, and only use 500KW, that surplus is then shared with other nodes on the network that require more power. They have no way at the moment to manage the crediting of nodes for sharing that energy with other nodes. They have a community of 120 nodes for a pilot, and it seems to be what Power Ledger are doing from Aus, but unsure the tech behind power ledger and if it's using the same lora tech for off grid and off GSM network locations, but they're pretty heavyweight. Guy asked me how I'd like to be involved, as I could do with more to do. I really like the idea, but man what a mountain and they will need some cash monies for it.

On the Novartis front, it's dull AF right now, but I was talking to a very good mate who happens to be the director of software engineering and connected to everyone here. He asked me if I knew anyone doing blockchain at novartis as he met up with some guys about it and what novartis was doing in that space. I don't, and haven't met anyone here. Turns out he met with some v. senior folk, one of whom is the chief digital officer here. I've asked if he would be able to connect me with all this lot, as I read their presentations and they're amateur as anything, so great potential to do some great stuff in here, or at least get a job that's more interesting :P we will see where it goes anyway!
 
After losing the last house and then finding out we couldn't do half the things we wanted, so it probably would have been a non starter anyway, we found another.

Different challenges, but same old Alsatian style with 2 outhouses. These are in a different configuration, and opposite the main house, and one adjacent to it with a courtyard in the middle. House on this one is much better condition, so our outhouses.

I did some designs on our vision.


Joining all the buildings together and making the space all flow, with a central rear courtyard overlooked by all parts of the house. We sent it all to the architect who has just come back and said it should be possible and wants to come and see the house next week, so she's coming over to see next week... step 1 of many I'm sure!
If we get the go ahead from the mayor and architect, I'll put a thread in the Homes section! Right now it's still business as, well, I say so :D

I was sold on that tbh :D good stuff!! Great to see it moving forwards, will be wicked.

I'm really pumped about our VolAir stuff at the moment, it's really very good. This backend stuff needs to be finished though and our man Martin is the guy to do it, but he's now been distracted (partially my fault tbh) by our distributed exchange for GoatCash. https://dex.goat.cash which Kristof starting building (fork of ForkDelta, but nothing works without a load of work) because I took a screenshot of Goat Cash logo on the fork delta exchange. Basically, I have myself to blame. On the plus side, getting our own exchange up and running will mean we can list both GOAT and VOL tokens on there and enable the selling/buying which we will need for the VolAir app anyway... I just want to get this app released so I can get people on board to push it!
I have this niggle that they're going to try and can me at this contract as well. I am no way at capacity (haha you think? ****, I have built about 3803748 businesses) and they are trying to get rid of the software I support for something else, (it sucks, I told them they should tbf) so reckon my costs on top of this will be something they'll want to reduce. Been looking about but nothing really in my space, or any space I like, but hey. I want to just quit and sit in my pants but my wife has already said she wants a million things for this / the house.
 
I only have the issue of being able to afford it now lol we have a budget, need to get that from the banks at the best rate. Should not cost us more per month than we pay currently in rent. Well, not a lot more and by the time it's finished, the mortgage on our apartment will be finished, so we'll be better off if anything. Just that initial outlay.
Trying to reign everything in, no spending a thing. Our budgets are tight AF. Don't panic... don't panic...
