This Business and Moment...

New Year, same me. I have that call today with the HR at Doodle. See what they are chatting about.

Also, managed to get the Android version of my app out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mystoragehunter.storagehunter
Less than a month for a turnaround from idea to app store. Got the iOS pending, but Apple need to sort their **** out with my company account so I can push it to that store. That and need to fix banner ads with Google. No idea what's going on there but have a ticket open. Then I'll do a proper launch with it and push some marketing a bit. Would be interesting to see if I can pick up some B2B interest for storage companies to white label it.

Cheezus still pushing on. Biggest part at the moment is this admin part of the app, but the dude is getting there.

Started a family youtube channel as well last year for all our travels, cooking and stuff which has been really fun so far. Keeps us busy for sure haha https://youtube.com/c/barefamting

Let's see what the year has in store...

Thanks man! Got a call with Apple this afternoon, so hopefully sort it then. The very same thing happened with my other one. Said payment was successful but shows pending on account but then gets returned. Nothing blocked bank end, so it's weird.
I told them this but they still need to go through all the BS system and process and don't believe this same thing already happened.
Hoping they take payment today and I can get the app up there asap.

Call with Doodle went pretty well. At least I felt it did. HR lady was lovely and we ended up running over by 20mins as we were deep in convo. Sounds like a really interesting time at the company, they're targeting the B2B space and moving from the consumer market. This pretty much means it's got to operate like a startup in the way it does it's product development etc. Would be fun, I think and definitely something I'd enjoy doing.
I don't think I'll get anywhere though, they have a number of candidates in the process already and just don't think I'll stack up with them, but hey, nothing lost in the conversation. It was nice just having the first interview tbh.
The commute would be a ballache, but they mentioned the top level salary which made my bum twitch and I just nodded and said OK, that sounds fine.

Quiet at work here at the moment on this contract. Everyone is waiting for announcements of this reorg and what jobs they're going to be put into. That's at the end of Jan...! Going to cause so much ****. Hey ho, I make the most of it and carry on as per. Still not felt like I'm back into the work rhythm yet, so need to find my pace again.

Argggghs. Feedback from Doodle. Didn't get to next round. I'm OK with that now. I was a bit bummed but expected it really.

I've got v1.0 of storage hunter app out on Android, but need to get out the iOS STILL. Apple has been a complete pain and I can't seem to enroll for the dev account for LSB Collective, which means I can't launch it. It's been escalated to a senior team apparently. Hopefully this week, it's been weeks now.

I've been doing user stories today for the VolAir app as I want to get that out. Finally. I want to use the guy who did my Storage Hunter app, too. I like him and his communications. Will get them over to him tonight and see what the timescales and costs are likely to be. More complicated now as the app I want to have payments as well as some other things. Will see!

Cheezus is v1.0 sorted apparently for Android, but the guy is waiting for access to a Mac so he can get the iOS version finished. Annoying as that's what I have and both apps I can't bloody use! But hey, it's coming together regardless. Slowly again.

Had a weird opportunity with emotuit. A company (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ciright_Systems) contacted me and asked me to provide them with an API/ Service that would allow them to get back details on gender, age and emotions of person for many use cases they have in retail.
Now, it's not what emotuit does... emotuit uses a service from microsoft to get this information, we just analyse it and present it back to customers. That's where our IP is.

Saying that, I know I can get it done quickly to provide this API for this Ciright company. I spoke with their CEO on the phone a number of times and in his words, "if we can work together on this, we have huge demand this year on our solutions, together we could make some serious money" so now I'm like, ****, I have to do this. So I'm working to find someone who can turn out this service in the smallest time to send over to them to use.
I'm hoping to shortlist someone today for the job so I can quickly get it turned around and give the API details to Ciright and see if I can pull off a complete miracle.

So that's my week.

I mean if they couldn't offer you a contract past march anyway then WTF, I don't think they've got any grounds to complain or feel miffed as you had to leave regardless. Surely moving to where an old manager works would be sensible anyway if it hadn't been coincidental/a surprise that he happened to be at the place you applied to.

I mean I really don't get why they'd be funny about it - you're a contractor not an employee, where you go next is none of their business in the first place tbh...
Agree with this! People are weird though and although they should know you're a contractor, people are weird. Full stop.

Good on you lining something up though!

Nice @NickK! And it sounds mad... haha

I've just got back from a few days away, but while I was there had some great progress on all fronts. Well, all of my side projects anyway.

It's been a bit weird lately with emotuit, the web traffic is going a bit nuts, I've had 1785 new visitors in 2020 so far, I don't advertise and I've been winding down really. Well, I was until I got this potential project with the US company Ciright. It started ramping up traffic since end of Oct last year, and considering in the whole of 2018 I had 2600 new users, this last few months has been a bit weird. As such, I've also received 2 requests to use our plugin for learning management systems in the last week.
On top of that, I have this opportunity with the US company I needed to deliver, so found someone to help me with this.
Sure enough, I'm ready for it! I just need to do some tweaks and send instructions on the API end points to Ciright and I'm hoping we can find a way to partner for all their applications they need.

While I was away as well, the latest version of Storage Hunter was released. There is a new admob banner for the consumer version showing in the app. I'm STILL waiting on Apple to sort my account and then the iOS will be done. I seem to have all the issues on the Apple front, which is annoying as that's what I use, too. Anyway, the app is ready to be deployed, just need the dev account for the company.

Then, my good old Cheezus. I love this because it's just something so complicated for technology, but it's such a great use case and has so much potential, too. I am using an Egyptian dude for this and it's been a bit bitty and can be more hit and miss, but he's so far delivered what's needed and I couldn't be happier.
I played with the backend admin site for the app, where I can add info on the cheeses and it's where I'll be able to add the recommendations for pairings, too as well as all admin stuff for the app. Not only this but I finally got a so very nearly ready version of the app, again on Android.

I'm dead pleased with this! It's going to be so good. I have the guy sorting out the list for the Eat and Drink with pairings now, and the associated UI in the app and after that we're ready for a tentative beta launch! Can't wait...!

It's great to see things really coming along, and although I'm working on about 27439364 things, it's nice to see little things popping off and managing those! It's never as quick as I like, but with the budgets I have, it's to be expected and it's actually good to help me manage it all lol

Anyway, that's my essay.

I've just pushed the Cheezus BETA release to the Google Play store. Got to wait for the review, but am so pleased. 2 more features to be added, but they're being worked on now. Then it's pretty solid for v1.0 and I can start building up a **** load of cheese data. Once I've run the beta a bit, and got the iOS side sorted, I'll do full release.

Got some wicked stuff planned though! Adding some events section, some blog post sections and it's cheese, so you know... cheese.

Also, sent the emotuit API to the customer, now to see if I can make some cash out of this.

I'm waiting on the bugger to sort out my iOS side and a couple of bugs and things for cheezus, which us frustrating and I want the iOS one out to push more. I also want them all to the same level, so I can start the V2 ideas. I have people using it but I need more and can't when it's not as it should be. Work was good up until now but now comms have slipped and he's getting lazy. Cracked the whip a bit, so hopefully it'll get better. We're at 35 active users on Android, but I know so many iOS people that it's just annoying. I have spoken to loads of companies interested in listing their stuff on the app, but I need to get these last things done.

I've got the company in the US who have now built a solution using my emotuit API. Will work out what comes of that... just leaving it with them to see at the moment but it's cost me $450 to get to this point and hopefully it'll lead to some increase of work. Had a call with someone else wanting to use it as well, so will see if that leads to anything.

While I'm in a bit of a wait, which is frustrating, I've been manning social and rebuilt the Cheezus website: https://cheezus.co and then read a forum thread about the woman who won that house for 2quid in the house raffle. Thought it would be interesting to have a site that allowed people to list their houses as competition prizes on the site. No upfront fee, set the value of the house and cover all stamp duty and fees. The site only takes a cut of successfully completed raffles. Raffle tickets not all sold, the money returned to users.
It all seemed pretty easy and found a few little things to make it easier, but last night I built it :D (told you I have issues): https://rafcity.com
Cost me about 5quid so far, about 2.99 for domain and I use a $5 a month VPS for hosting. Has fully working listings, with raffle ticket assignment and allotment. Even does live draws at the end, too. Paypal checkout sorted. Mailchimp newsletter sorted out and facebook linked page/ Fb shop as well. About 3hrs I think it's taken me.

The escrow could cause a problem too I'd strongly suspect that a lot of (if not pretty much all) of the organisers of these competitions will dip into their share of the ticket sales (they often allocate say 25%) in order to cover the marketing costs required to generate further ticket sales. Unless you were proposing to fund the marketing yourself in return for the fee you take.
That's the idea.

Lastly Paypal specifically don't support house competitions so that PayPal checkout is redundant to begin with.
No? Where does it say you can't buy tickets with paypal? I just haven't seen it. Or looked for it tbf!

It's been reported in a few stories - just had a quick google and found this one from the Sun for example:
Thanks man, that's really useful. I'll enable stripe instead.

The free entry option is going to be an extra faff if you're potentially going to be sorting through thousands of postal entries for each competition too.
Yea, not doing that, sounds like too much faff.

It's a pretty dodgy area to be involved in and your plan re: refunding the whole lot makes the idea pretty much a non-starter - your site won't work as planned unless you're prepared to take a hefty fee, award one to the property owners too (else where is the incentive for them) and do the alternative cash draws for some fraction of the prize pool as per most of these competitions. Unless you've got some way of marketing these things that others haven't tried before.
OK, valid point. Might have to structure it as others. Cash prize of X% of the total prize pool sold so far. Split marketing fee with owners like you mentioned for incentive...

For once I hadn't put a ton of thought into it haha I just needed to get it out my head. I appreciate your feedback though, I really do.
