It's most probably wrong time&date set on the outbound exchange server.

Spam creators seem to be going back in time to send emails to make sure they get through

It's not unheard of.

I sent myself an email on the 28th June 2008 which arrived on the 23rd August 2011.

This message was sent on 19th Jun 2008 at 15:26:44, following which it travelled at the speed of light to our server. It then waited until 23rd Aug 2011 at 10:32:47 when it was collected by Agent 94 aka 'Eha' who finally forwarded it to you on 23rd Aug 2011 at 23:45:28.
