I'm about to get rid of my old E700 but I desperately need to transfer all the photos from it to my PC. Firstly, I bought an USB cable or something, and went through a really frustrating period of trying and trying to install it, and then trying to make it work, only to find out that I couldn't actually tranfer photos via it.

I then bought an IrDA USB dongle and, after yet another frustrating period of time trying to install everything and make it work, my computer finally recognised the E700 (when I set on the phone's infra red). I then clicked all the buttons to install the software. After that, nothing happened. Exactly what do I do then?

I also downloaded Easystudio PIMS & file manager from a recommendation, but it's been about as useful as a chocolate teapot, going on and on about being 'offline'.

Seriously, no language in the world would describe just how frustrated I am :( what should I do in order to actually transfer the photos from my phone??

As far as i know the (older) samsung phones were useless when it came to actually sending data. Irda was good for sending contacts and thats about it. Not sure how different it is with a computer and the right software mind.

But i think to back it all up, your looking at using the official samsung software (i think there is some) and their officiall connection cable, which might only be available in serial form (it wouldnt suprise me).

To be fair, i haven't really touched samsung phones in years, so i could be way off the mark here. But my ex had one, and even though it was pretty up-to-date it still couldn't send stuff to my phone via Irda (didn't even have bluetooth). Think that was the E800 or something like that, which is possibly "better" than yours.

when i had an e700 i gave up trying to get anything off it using ir or a data cable, and instead just sent all the photos as mms or emails (can't remember which). Although could be expensive if you want to send a lot of information.

tried to sort out a mates E800 Samsung....

got a samsung serial cable off a friend for him.... downladed software from Samsung.... no connection - not good.

Managed to find somebody with official Samsung USB cable - voila I thought.... still no go...

asks for a driver - this driver dont seem to install with the software I got from Samsung... so I dunno if there was something on the disk that Im missing...

I did read that the infared will only send contacts and numbers - NOT pictures .. quite a useless feature I think.

Do you have a disk that came with the phone ?

Were not really helping are we just proving thats its useless :D
Personally dude, your best emailing and msing your most vital content to keep secure, most other methods are likely to be difficult/impossible.

eh, this is wierd, I had a e700 back when they first came out, and used it perfectly with a random irda mouse type cable that i got off the bay, found it easy as pie to transfer stuff from phone to pc, and pc to phone, including photos, ringtones etc, iirc i was using pims and filemanager

so can anybody remember getting anything else on a disk or was is it the same software (well probably updated now...) on the Samsung website - i got that but it still wouldnt connect - asked for a USB driver... google wasnt my friend on this occasion....

Easystudio PIMS & file manager
This is the correct software for E700.You need to make the correct options to set it up in the program when you start it.Make sure you have your IR adapter plugged in then start the software and select IRDA as the conntion device.

I used to do tech support on all Samsung products, but it's been a while.

Anyway, is your E700 seen by your PC when you connect via IR? You've only got about half a nanosecond to make them see each other before the IR dies though.
What version of Windows are you using?
EasyStudio - is this the most recent version?
Does your IrDa adaptor work with other devices?

You'll probably need to drop your IrDa adaptor down to the bare minimum connection speed and then ramp it up from there, once you're connected it's relatively easy to get things off - I think it's the file manager that allows you to pull your images off.

alasdair :

can you remember anything about the USB cable connection (dont have an Irda one) - it first asked for a usb driver?

I got the software mentioned above - phone just kept searching... couldnt find just the driver.... only the software... just wondered if I missed something.

I owned an E700 and I've got to be honest - I never had a single problem uploading/donloading ringtones & images to/from it.
So much so that I used to get frustrated with those people who had problems because for me it always just seemed to work :)
I actually wrote some instructions on how to do it via iRDA:

Alas I'm sure it is no different to the way you've been trying things so you'll probably find that link of limited use to you.
