    Hahahaha....

What a load of rubbish, Kim Schmitz (or Dotcom) has not even stood trial yet, let alone been sentenced to 50 years...some people will believe anything.

I think it was mentioned on the news that he could receive up to 50 years. It was probably Fox News.

this is close to the heart one.

this is the 1st monument to the Auchengeich minning disaster which killed 47 miners in a town where i live called chryston.

My grandfather was a miner there and was part of the 1st rescue team to be sent down but couldnt get to anyone.

this is the report of what happend
    http://www.scottishmining.co.uk/250.html

basicly the fan belt that supplied air to the shaft caught fire and filled the mine with smoke. the fire also trapped miners that were in the cart on thair way down to start a shift. later the coal board orderd the mine to be flooded which upset alot of people.

A few years a ago. we commisiond another statue to commemerate 50 years of the accident. a bronze miner unveild by scottish minister alec salmond.
this statue was later stolen by god knows who and never recoverd.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/8368273.stm

another one stands in its place.

    thanks for reading.

    Garnkirk, near the old distillery.

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=55.887389,-4.117073&hl=en&num=1&t=h&z=17

Hopefully that link works, the green arrow is (was) the distillery, I lived in the first house under the "A" pointer (IRO Villas). The distillery is the one mentioned about half way down this page. http://www.skwebpages.com/chryston/story/p11.shtml

In keeping with the thread, here's about the only picture I can find of it - although I only remember it as piles of bricks and holes in the ground full of water and barrels.

It may not be though provoking for many, but brings back a lot of memories of my childhood :)
