This week I signed up for the organ transplant register.

I ticked all boxes except from Cornea (I don't like the idea of someone cutting my eyes out!).

My reason for signing up is if I am dead then I don't need a liver, lungs etc.
Would be good if we could have a poll? Just to see how many people out there on on the list (I am interested to know what your views are either way).

1. I have signed up
2. I have not signed up
3. I intend to sign up in the future
4. I have signed up but wish to take my name off the register in the future

I joined as well couple month back, ticked everything. Joined mainly for the same reason as you, since i'm dead i'm not going to be using them

you dont need your corneas either if you are dead. in your coffin before you are buried or burnt your eyes would be closed. so just go the whole hog :p

1 - I thought I had signed up a few years ago but I ticked the box when renewing my Driving License photo last month just to be sure. Let them have the lot if I don't explode or spontaneously combust :)

I signed up for everything a few years back. The only one that bothers me is my lungs - I smoke, and while I'm not the heaviest smoker I know, I don't seem to do well from it, so I worry most about whether my lungs would be viable. I'm happy to donate anything I'm not using any more to medical science, too - even though the probability is that it'll end up on some med student's morning coffee, there's a chance it'll be my organ that helps with a major progression in medical science, and I can't see any benefit in letting it rot in the ground or burn instead.

Already signed up for the complete works. My mother signed up a few months back, showed me how easy it was to register and the rest is history. It should be on by default and **** the religious or sentimental bullcrap. People's lives are at stake here and you don't deserve to go to whatever fanciful version of the afterlife you believe in if you refuse.

It would be cool if there was a gift note option to whoever receives your body part :)

"This (insert body part) did me proud until (insert cause of death), please look after it and enjoy. Love (Donor name). P.S. please be careful of (insert cause of death)"

I didn't do it for anything religious or any afterlife thing as I don't think it is real (but that is another story), I did it because I believe it is the one of the most single kindest acts you can do for another person and yet it takes absolutely no effort. No matter what you have done in life, you have done your bit for someone else.

Thank you - step 3 of 3
It's as easy as 1 2 3
Thank you for registering your wishes about organ donation to help save others after your death.
What will happen next?

Your details will be matched with your NHS number. If we already have your details, we will update your current entry. If not, we will add your name to the NHS Organ Donor Register.

1. Just now, have been meaning to do it for ages. They can take the lot as far as i'm concerned.

I'm on the register to give the lot. I won't need it when I'm gone.

Well said.
