I don't get it. Why is pokemon so popular over there? I never understood the craze.

Kotaku said:
DS titles Pokémon Soul Silver and Heart Gold went on sale in Japan on September 12. Pokémon DS games? Bet lots of people bought them.

In they're first two days on sale, Soul Silver and Heart Gold sold 1,408,980 copies of the game. The title sold out at locations across Japan, so the demand is even higher than those sales indicate.

The games are remakes of Gold and Silver, which sold 23 million copies worldwide.

hm its not JUST popular over there.. its one of the greatest handheld RPGs ever created with a level of depth that really does surpass most portable games.

pokemon ***!!!

Gold and Silver was the greatest generation for Pokemon (two continents to explore, considerably fixed type advantages, ******' tyranitar man!). If I find my DS I fully expect to get Soul Silver for it. The original was an amazing game.

It was a good game (red/blue) back on the gameboy. I'm surprised its still going on so strong must be over 10 years? now. Understandable in Japan but worldwide I'm surprised, I know people still buying the games in their early 20's and collecting other spin offs, do not understand why.

because its a quality game!

you seem to think that the pokemon franchise is created soley for kids.. the level of depth to the rpg is quite deep once u get into areas such as breeding, IV's, EV's and specialist movesets etc.

Its just generally been a fantastic franchise comerically. I don't think pokemon would have been as popular over here without the tv show, which is still going strong afaik. The games are a winning formla, addictive, entertaining and just simple and fun to play which makes them great for handhelds and thus it appeals to all ages.

Pretty much the one of the same reasons why people new to Japanese Anime will think that just because it is a cartoon animation with characters with big cutesy eyes (In Pokemon's case, wierd and cute creatures) that it is only for children, well it's not! If you actually get to know the topic at hand, as mentioned before, you will find there is a lot of depth in there and it is a much bigger world than you realise.

I actually like a few anime shows. Death Note is probably my all time favorite anime.

You can easily tell the difference between anime aimed at teenagers\adults. Compared to those aimed at kids. Bleach and Naruto, Once piece and Deathnote, are all teenager and above aimed. Pokemon anime shows are for the younger generation, obviously that doesnt stop some of us anime fans watching it though

Dragonball\Z\GT is a funny one, As in our country its a kids show, The uncut version however I would say is more for teenagers
