Hi all,

I'm looking to get a new mobile tomorrow as my current phone has just about had it. I'm very interested in the SE W810i as it does everything I'd pretty much want out of a phone. I can take pics with the 2mp camera, play my music with the memory sticks, and it looks like a fairly decent sized phone so it won't stick out of my pocket too much.

I've had 'smart' phones in the past (SE P910i, SPV, the updated SPV) and I'm not really after the same this time around.

Just wanted to know what your thoughts are on the SE W810i. Is it worth me getting tomorrow? I've looked around on the various reviews and the phone has got some excellent praises, with little in the way of cons.

Thanks very much :)

I've got a SE W810i myself and have had it for about a month now, and I must say I'm really happy with it, 512mb memory card included and a very good pair of headphones make it a good little mp3 player and has a nice camera on it too. If you have used any other SE handsets in the past you shouldn't have much trouble getting used to this one.

There are a few things to be aware of though, first is branding, I'm on O2 so mine is unlocked and has no network branding on it so I don't have this problem, however I have read posts of people who have this on voda or orange for example and they say the software is a bit sluggish, however putting on the default SE software makes it much more responsive.

The next problem is the flashing light issue, basically when you turn on the light to take a photo it will only stay on constantly for about 5 seconds then begin to flash on and off. Mine still does this, I know it is fixable but I've not got round to it yet.

There are also a few people who have spoken to their network about this and they've replaced the handset and the problem has been fixed on the replacement, so you may not even get this issue. Easiest way to find out is ask to demo the phone in the shop before you buy it.

Have a search through this forum, there is several posts about the de-branding and the flashing light issue, they'll be able so explain more for you.

Thanks for the reply ChuKKi Ninja. I'm in a bit of a rush to get the phone as I'm currently using an old Motorola V600i (which is absolutely pants) as I broke my P910i and cracked the screen in several place :p

I've read about the branding issue, would I be able to install the firmware from the SE website? Or will I require an independent phone shop to install it?

Cheers for the camera issue headsup though, I'll make sure I check the phone out before bringing it home in the morning. Does it always do this after 5 seconds, or every now and then?

Thank you :)

Hi, I replaced my P910i with a W810i a few weeks back. Not regretted it either ! Thought I may miss some of the functionality of the P910i but so far I've forgotten about it ! Walkman functions are good, even video playback isn't bad even on the small screen. Camera is really good and the size and ease of use is better than I expected. So all in all a great phone from my point of view.. A colleague of mine has since replaced his old phone with one too and isn't disappointed !!

If you are a existing user or SE's, I had a K750i, the ONLY thing that is a real bummer is that pad instead of the joystick.

You get so used to the joystick its hard to navigate using the new PAD.

I did think about returning it and getting a K800i

If the phone is branded with the operators crap on it then you can either do it yourself via the Da Vinci website or take it to a high st mobile phone shop who can do it for you but it will cost you a bit. Da Vinci only charge £7 and you use the supplied cable to flash the firmware to the non operator one.

As for the flashing camera issue, well i have one W810i which i got from Tmobile and was full of the tmobile rubbish, i flashed the firmware with the Da Vinci software files and found that my flashing light issue had disappeared.

Anyways do a search next time, theres a big thread on the w810i;) and i also posted instructions on how to do the firmware flash via the da vinci website...heres the link and scroll down to post #53 where i have posted the instructions:)

Have a read through the whole thread, some good info in there and as usual my disclaimer stands that even though i have posted the info on how to flash your firmware, i will not take any responsibility should you mess up your phone.

Cheers for the replies all. I picked the phone up today after looking at the various alternatives, but the W810i seems to be an absolute corker of a phone :D

I did scan the first 5-6 pages of this forum last night but didn't see much there, so thanks for the headsup Spawn :D My phone's on Orange so I don't think theres much branding on it (unless I'm much mistaken).

Thanks again :D

I think its a GSM one. There aren't any Orange logos on the box or on any of the material inside it. The only Orange thing I got was the SIM card packet.

It's unlocked/unbranded then :)

Well not anymore i cant as when i flashed it, the flash got rid of all that tmobile stuff on there including the web n walk portal etc.
But doesnt really bother me as i use the standard web browser and the last 2 month bills i have got...havent been charged for using the web and emails.

Lucky you mate:), usually Orange really do mess their phones up with their branding...only network that i have come across that doesnt really mess about are o2.
