Thoughts on the N73 & K800i

Hi,

I have been pondering my next phone upgrade and am considering either of the above. The reviews seem pretty positive for both so I wondered if any owners had thoughts.

I currently have a K750i but would like a bit more functionality in the way of an organiser and e-mail access. The quality of the camera is important too.
If anybody has any other phone recommendations as well then please chuck them in too.

Thanks,

David

Hi, I had to make that choice recently and went for the N73.

I read loads of stories about them being slow and crashing but it's been fine for me so far. Obviously it won't be as fast as the K800i.

The camera on the K800i is better IMO. The N73 doesn't seem to perform very well in low light conditions, although it's still fairly decent.

I'm not to sure about the look of the K800i. I think it looks a bit tacky and not as nice as the previous W810i. But obviously that's personal preference.

I doubt you'd be disappointed in either but the N73 would probably be more useful. :)

i have k800i.. great phone in every way. Cannot fault it.

I was a big nokia fan up until this fone and just got so fed up with previous nokie fones that i decided to switch to Sony Ericsson and im glad i did.

Go for k800i

Had my K800i since they came out, not that impressed to be honest. Loved my old K750i though and prefer that.

A few little niggles, the buttons aren't too sensitive and need to be pressed fairly hard, they're pretty small aswell, the K750i keypad is much better. Also there's an annoying internet button that I'm constantly pressing, everytime I goto my phone it's on the net, I goto press call and it's dialing the net, etc.

The camera is fiddly and unfriendly. The much talked about feature about it taking 9 pics requires you to go into the menu and go through options to enable it, it's just a pain. This is a feature that's handy for those quick "take a photo quick!!" moments, but it takes so long to enable it... :( Also phone screens are too small really for you to be able to tell the difference between them to be honest, so never bother using that feature.

No torch! handy feature on the k750i

The memroy cards are difficult to get hold of!

Poor battery life compared to the K750i

Things that are better is the screen is superb, best I've seen on any phone. The joystick is much improved :)

I'd disagree with the memory cards being difficult to get hold of for the K800i.
I ordered a 1GB one at 2:00pm Tuesday and it was with me by 10:00am Wednesday last week.
The company I bought from were holding "plenty of stock" of 512MB, 1GB & 2GB modules.
Sorry I can't post a link as they do also sell things that OcUK sell too.

These phones have been out for months and it's still not possible to walk into a high street shop and buy one. Hence me saying difficult and not impossible.

I was looking for an M2 memory card online for months and everywhere was out of stock, maybe that's just changed haven't looked for a couple of weeks now

Thanks for the replies.

I do like the look of the N73's screen and extra functions but had forgot about the N80 & N93 so I may take a look at them too.

I went for the N73 over the k800i purely because it will be more useful and I can put a lot more apps etc on the phone compared to the SE. Also the memory cards are much much cheaper than sony's.
Too many people I know have the SE so I thought I would be different and have a little change :)
I was also thinking of the n93, but imo it is way too big, you could build a house with that thing :D, unless you don't mind that thing, or are a girl and put your phone in your handbag

Really? I can access that setting with a single button press.

There are two buttons at the top of the phone, either side of the speaker grille. The one on the left (bottom one when in camera mode) accesses the shoot mode options.

And the majority of them on fleBay are fake...

You can get the SanDisk (they make the Sony branded ones) 1GB M2 cards pretty cheap from genuine online shops anyway. Make sure it comes with 5 years manufacturers warranty, a lot of fakes only come with 2years.
