I Haven't built a new pc in a while. I'm mainly looking at gaming at 1440p at 240hz, I play a lot of competitive FPS. I don't really mind about the budget, I just want a monster PC. Any issues you guys think I have with a PC? I have picked the case because I have it currently and its silent, and thats a big selling point to me

Fractal Define R7

Intel Core i7 13700K

Noctua NH-D15S

4080 ( I might get a 4090 but worried about temps etc )

ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus

Corsair Vengeance 64GB Kit (2x32GB) 6000MH

Corsair RM1000X SHIFT 1000W

Noctua NF-A12x25 Chromax Black case fans

Samsung 990 PRO NVME 1TB

Any advice is appreciated

Can you give us a price? Hard to say if it is a good/bad buy without the price (and preferably a budget too).

I googled "Fractal Define R7" and I can't find any case with this description, but there is a "Define 7", is that the same case? Dimensions look fairly generous, so I don't think it would have an issue with graphics card length. Max CPU cooler height is 185mm.

Do you already own the case and fans? Would likely be cheaper to get a case with them pre-installed.

Have you checked the SHIFT works fine with the Define (due to the placement of the modular board)?

Do you have other storage? 1TB isn't much for a modern gaming system, some games can eat nearly half of that (+OS) on their own :o

Anyway, suggested changes to save some ££ (either for the build, or to put into the GPU):

(Note: RAM is slow due to stock issues)

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,164.86 (includes delivery: £11.98)

Cooler: this (under £50).

Zotac 4080 chosen for warranty length.

I would not consider looking at Raptor Lake any longer. Firstly RL refresh is likely due next month and is unlikely to be anything amazing apart from a bump in clocks. I would look only to AMD Ryzen 7XXX as the platform is now relatively mature, MB prices are drifting lower and will support probably through to R9xxx so longevity is more assured.

Put in the case as a placeholder but it will fit the parts above although the Sapphire Pulse GPU is the only one I can se that fits (312mm vs case max 315mm). The others at OCUK either don't give length or they are 320mm. If you are sold on RT (which you shouldn't be with competitive FPS) you can always go green team for another £120+

Ram and Case happen to be white but you can get black for the same price

RAM is now 6000C30

PSU is 850w but you can go to 1000w for not much more (+-££40)

For CPU cooler, you can choose either this Thermaltake Frost Commander for outright performance or the Thermaltake Peerless Assassin @Tetras mentioned above which will be quieter but at a little extra heat

For the RAM, you want faster RAM for Intel and 6000 CL30 for AMD.

Will post a link to Buildzoids RAM recommendations.
