Three Home Signal - how do I get one?

Home signal

I only got my phone this week and have NO signal at all in house and have to walk about 20 metres outide to send texts. Phoned 333 today and initally the guy said 'we don't do those anymore' but it took about 10 minutes of him doing some tests so now I sould be getting a call back from the Tech team about getting the 'box' in the next 72 hours. What are the chances of them actually sending one out? (really need it or there's no point me paying my 15 quid a month)

Did anyone have any more luck with these? I rang up today to complain about signal in a flat I rent, but at my home address the signal is fine so I'm not sure if I'm going to be eligible. Currently awaiting a callback...

EDIT: Just to close this one of I was told I could either pay £50 for the Home Signal or get out of my 12-month contract early free of charge, chose the second option...

Just to add my 2 cents to this thread. I was with Giff Gaff but I found internet and signal generally in the south was not great. I have a three mifi so I knew 3g signal was better and it is - however at home I have zero signal, 1 bar for a few seconds if I am lucky. So I called them up. Because I have just joined three on a monthly plan they weren't that happy about even selling me one (they apparently cost £100+). However they agreed to and next day it arrived, plugged it in and it's fantastic. We have a 4 bed house, I have placed this in the least logical place (downstairs play room in the corner) and the mobile signal reaches the whole house. Cost to me was £50.

Very pleased, if you have a poor three signal at home would recommend these. For information the only other supplier that gets a good signal where we live is Vodaphone and I don't like there plans (except when going abroad) and 3g is very poor.

I am also interested in obtaining one of these devices, but was rather surprised to see that it requires a specific SIM card unlike, for example, the Vodafone SureSignal which operates (so far as I am aware) on a similar principal.

I am currently with Vodafone, but am looking at some of 3's current offers!

Why is that a concern? The device comes with it already installed - for all you know vodaphone may have it as part of the device. Only numbers you have authorised can make use of the device.

Personally very happy with the device, I have it hidden behind a photo in the living room which is pretty much bang in the centre of the house which means I get full signal strength in a 4 bed house with solid internal walls.

Had a chat with a colleague on it yesterday and he couldn't tell the phone was using it.

Without a token (like a SIM) the network will not authorise End User Devices - a femto is no exception to the rule otherwise it would break the chain. The tie to the network allows for geo-location triangulation, firmware updates, remote management etc...

Imy - yes.

It wasn't a concern, more of an expression of surprise really, but as you say there is probably something similar build into the Vodafone ones anyway.

I gather that '3' aren't all that keen on giving these out, but I am sure they wouldn't want to turn away a potential new customer... or perhaps they wouldn't really care one way or the other!

Do these devices use your existing broadband connection to route calls?

Yes the home signal device has a cat5 connection, I use a homeplug to connect the homesignal device to the network.

I have 4 homeplugs in my network :)

It's a retention device rather than a customer acquisition device, you'll need to show you get low signal etc... AFAIK it's not being given out at sub time. One slightly clever thing you can do it is buy the contract online, phone up and say you want a femto as you get sod all or the phone goes back under DSR. This can backfire but it can also get what you want etc...

As with all networks, phone up first and threaten to leave to see what deal they will do.

Thanks... I have already checked their website and found that a relatively small area around my house is shown as a white 'no coverage' area, so your suggestion may well work!

So I might just go for that HTC One after all! ;)

As mentioned earlier its a retention device but mostly offered to customers on a long term contract, I am on a 1m rolling contract and have this problem of weak signal I rang them up and asked I wanted to cancel, was offered a signal box if I upgraded to a 12m sim only or a 24 month handset deal.

With me I have no signal at home, I am a new customer on a 1 month sim only contract but I was always open that I was happy to pay the £50 and I was looking at the possibility of moving the families phones over to three which couldn't happen if this wasn't sorted..

I suspect it was the happiness with the £50 that made it ok for them - they are mad though as it does lock you into them regardless of your contract - signal is very sweet now :)

I've signed up to a 3 sim only 12 month contract, about 1 month in. Always 0 bars or emergency calls on inside my house.

Called 333, pleaded my case. They called me back the next day but they would only give me a home signal if I paid £50. Fairly annoying, but I can see they don't really benefit with me being on a £6.90 contract lol :) . No penalty for exiting the contract early, got my PAC, but every other company is more expensive :(

I know that you can add other mobile numbers, such as friends and family to these so as to benefit from the increased signal level, but presumably they would have to be with '3' also, and not (for example) with Vodafone or O2?

It's worth the 50 tbh
