Three Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowden)

* If possible, don't use a minibus. There's a fair few miles of driving involved and being at 62mph will cost a fair bit of time.

When I did it (a company group but with a charity) the driving time was capped so you didnt speed between mountains. Really good fun tho.

That is what makes it difficult but also not very appealing to many.

Done all 3 separately, and would not have an issue doing all 3 back to back within 24 hours (I climbed 10,200ft this last weekend over 9 hours of ascent and descent combined), but the logistics of driving from peak to peak is not very enticing. Would rather do Nevis 3 times via 3 different routes.

Exactly... part of the challenge is how much you are willing to break the speed limit between the mountains :p

It's the lack of sleep that is the worst! When I did it for charity there was four of us walking and three driver, across one car and a minibus. If you were on the minibus you got no sleep at all, very harsh ride and couldn't lay out.

As others have, we started up Nevis about 4.30-5pm to be back down around 10, quick nibble then on towards the lakes. Because we were doing a big charity event the organisers had a stop off for a couple of hours at some services so we didn't arrive at Scafell too early waking the farmers/locals.

You have to be harsh in your training though, if people aren't putting the effort in or are too slow you can't keep them. We originally had 8 walkers but some dropped out and a couple we said no to as they just weren't going to make it.

Great experience though and one I'd love to do again. The walk down off of Snowdon if on the Llanberis path seems to take forever when you're shattered!

Oh and don't do what we did and stay up drinking the night before and have next to no sleep!!!

I've done it in 3 days when I was at school for Macmillian Cancer.

The guy who took us was a ML and took us up interesting routes, Crib Goch was good fun :)

I'm tempted to do it again in the regular 24h format now I'm older.

I have done the 3 seperately and doing them all together would probably be a bit much for me, if you are doing it for charity or to prove you can do it then go for it. For snowdon in my opinion it is deffinately the best of the three, doing Cribb Goch if you have done the miners route or pyg track before is amazing, the whole route and views make it so worthwhile.

Ben nevis - I only visited once and went up the tourist route, the top is awesome, it's like another planet with the fog but the route is pretty boring and the same thing higher and higher.

Scafell - All I remember was that we started out and it was nice and dry and it was like atlantis on the way down and lots of rivers swelled and others formed, got a little dangerous at times.

I agree about the dedicated driver bit, it would be dangerous for other people on the road.
