Just a few questions for you chaps if you dont mind.

1) I have a ton of Isopropyl alcohol but what's the best tool for using it with? I've been using cotton buds from the supermarket but i notice a few strands come away that i then have to remove.

2) I've seen a few recomendations for the Thermalright Venomous X but the product page is a for a cooler without a fan, as are the various unboxing video's. However, OCUK and other vendors only seem to offer this which doesn't appear to be the same thing.

3) Are there any other more readily available coolers that you can recommend for about £40?

Cheers

1. I generally use tissues or kitchen paper towel to wipe off thermal paste as they don't leave any residue.

2. There are several versions of the VX, some of which come with fans and some that don't. The one OCUK sell come with two silent fans at 600RPM. The fans aren't the best but given that the heatsink alone would be a similar price, I'd go for it and just change the fans.

3. It'll be hard to get a better heatsink for that price. If you're not keen on buying the VX and getting two higher RPM fans for better performance, the Thermaltake Frio is an alternative. The VX is the more efficient heatsink if both coolers had the same fans but in this case the Frio comes with the better fans by default.

Thanks for that.

Might have to strike the VX off my list then as it'd be closer to £60 if bought with two good quality fans.

your cooling a 2500k which isn't that hot.
Stick with the VX, and upgrade the fans when you next upgrade the cpu.
I also have a 2500k and gtx460 in my pc. Both are cooled with a passive waterloop and a single system fan.
So a normal pc with two case fans, psu fan, gpu fan and two cpu fans is more than enought :)

This! Get the VX and only change fans if you're unhappy. It cools pretty much on par with the NH-D14 even with some 1200-1500RPM fans. And at 35 pounds, it's such good value for money.

Does anyone know if this comes with a fan? If so, its at a pretty good price on This Week Only, if the OP can wait till they're back in stock

It's shockingly poor compared to the VX or other air coolers and the price is simply a kick to the teeth.

Yeah i probably will go for it. My only problem with it is that buying two good fans would take it into Silver Arrow money. Plus those fan shrouds are uuuuuuugly.

Thank for that too. I guess I will hold on to my VX then :D

Did you get the one OCUK currently stock or the version with 1 or no fans? Either way, how good a cooler would you say it is overall?

If i bought the VX would a single Viper perform better that the 2 stock fans? What about just getting the Venom Voodoo cooler? £44 and comes with two good fans?

I got mine off MM awhile back and it came with no fans. Ive got 2 Venoms on it at the moment (Did have the Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM on it, but they were waaay too loud!)

Ive got no complaints with it, my PC runs cool at 4.5ghz, never going over 30c idle. Only problem I had was when installing the fans; the clips that came with them were sooo sensitive and every time i accidentally touched them, the fan would fall off. The Voodoo looks like the venom, but with the fans fixed in, so looks like a good buy.
