Hi there

OK adding over 150+ BHP and even more torque along with more weight on the front-end means I get brake fade and real quick, plus the stopping power could be better. So its time to upgrade my braking system.

What do you guys think of the following kits and options:-

1. Saleen 14" Brake Kit

This kit includes 6 Piston Calipers, 14" 1-piece rotors which I am not sure if they are blank, grooved or drilled. Fast street pads, steel braided hoses and Motul RBF600 DOT4 brake fluid. This is factory kit that is installed as STD on all Saleen SC cars and is compatible with the ABS unit.

Price: $1599

2. Ford/Shelby/Brembo GT500 14" Brake Kit

This kit includes 4 Piston Calipers, 14" 1-piece blank rotor and pads. Again this is a factory kit so is proven compatible with the cars ABS.

Price: $1100

3. Baer Eradispeed Plus-TWO 14" Rotors Front & Rear

This kit HAS NO CALIPERS!!
The kit comprises of front 2-piece 14" drill/grooved rotors and also 14" rear drill/grooved rotors. They are 2-piece with an ALU HAT, basically makes them lighter, about 3kg per corner than the stock rotors I believe.
For pads its Hawk HPS which are very highly rated.

Price: $1450

So what do you guys reckon is best?

Not really to bothered about the prices but the Shelby is a nice kit but unfortunately there is a long waiting time. The Saleen kit looks really good with great stopping power and is in stock now. Plus this kit is normally $2000, Saleen are just giving me a good discount.

I like option 3 the Baer Eradispeed rotors because they reduce un-sprung mass but their again on a car with over 500BHP, I am sure 3kg per corner will not be noticable anyway. Plus they are not a factory fit item so are not as in much use and as such not much user feedback.

they all seem rather cheap for brake kits

a decent 355mm 6 pot setup I wouldnt pay less than £2k, you have a damn nice car I'd make sure it stops damn well too :)

Hi m8

Thats because your paying UK prices. ;)

The same Brembo kit in the UK is about £2000, yet in the US its about $1000 which is about £600ish.

At the moment the front rotors are 12.4" and have 2 piston calipers with ultra quick fading pads.

I do like the Saleen kit as its a lot of kit for the money and keeps the Saleen name. :)

Can you not get a AP Racing 6 pot kit ! Expensive but should be well worth it !

IMO the saleen kit looks a bit "small"

Its the kit they fit on their supercharged cars, would imagine its perfectly capable.

They also do a 15" kit, but thats overkill to be honest and is about $2500, still cheap compared to UK prices though. :)

Hi there

Well been offered too much a good deal on the Shelby/Brembo kit.
One of the guys in the US ordered them for his car but his wheels are not big enough and as such the calipers conflict with his wheels making them no use for his car.

So I am taking the kit of him as its un-used and I've paid him $675 which is a mere £350 for a kit that would cost close to £2000 in this country. :)

Its not got the Saleen branding but its fitted as standard to the Shelby GT500 which has 500BHP and weighs close to 300kg more than my car so I am confident it will give superior stopping performance and be more fade resistant. :)

sound very good for the price but as Will has already said, I would personally be looking at AP's / Brembo GT's etc. to ensure i had the best possible stopping power - inline with the supercharger adding the best possible going power! ;)

Hi there

True but if they are good enough for the GT500 which weighs a lot more than my car and has practically the same power I am sure I shall be happy.

Afterall the brakes currently on my car were designed for 300BHP. Those are 2 Piston calipers and 12.4" rotors with pads made from cardboard. The new ones are Brembo 4 piston calipers, brembo blank rotors and street performance pads. Gonna be an improvement and people who have taken GT500's on the track have had no fade issues and had considerably superior braking to other cars and as I won't be going on track these should be fine for the road. To much of a good bargain to pass up and it will add a lot more re-sale value to the car. :)

Chip Foose swears by Baer brakes...

And they do make calipers as well for the pony...

:D

Duh! just saw you already got an excellent deal on the Brembo's

Nice one

:D

Hi there

Yup very good brand in the US and those are/were my 3rd option. Plus nearly all the BAER brake kits are 2 Piston jobs which kinda proves its not all about Pistons with Calipers as they come very highly recommended.

Still at £350 this Brembo kit is too good a deal to miss up on and saves me quite a lot of money from what I was originally planning on spending. :)
