Time to move on, £4-5k and comfort. Dressed up family saloons?

The first thing I thought of when I saw the thread was S60 D5.
Volvo dealers aren't cheap though and it probably will go bang at some point being a diesel :p

I'd take an S60 over and S40 every time. They are much better value for money and are usually very well specified.
Worth it though if you want a comfortable and relaxed, yet relatively boring, place to spend 18,000 miles a year :)
 
I wouldn't recommend a 2 litre V6 X-Type, it's got none of the performance of the 3 litre and most of the fuel consumption, the 3 litre is a bit higher only really because of the 4wd.

I just drove to Stansted and back in my XJ6, 282 mile round trip, 32.7mpg from the 3 litre V6 in that, normally with relatively shortish journeys, rarely more than 15 miles I struggle to get more than 22mpg.
