Time to pack in smoking i think

Yup. I need to stop really, £100 or so a month is taking the michael. Could have a sweet holiday for that or put itowards a deposit.

It just seems like as I have started to earn more money I have lost all self control. I nned to go back to living like I was on 16k or summat.

However I am working nights at the moment and a cig every few hours is the only thing keeping me sane but I have cut down.

when I finish these nights it is time for some cold Turkey. :(
But if it is only a week or 2 it is worth it. I agree about the exercise thing, last time I tried and was desperate I did 50 pressups. Stopped me wanting one. haha.

Still probably end up smoking when drunk but thats cool as long as I don't get back into the habit. I did this for years before starting fully.

My dad gave up about four months ago after he thought he had a heart attack (arrhythmia and high blood pressure instead) and came to the realisation he wasn't addicted to smoking, rather addicted to nicotine and as such sometimes puts a patch on to get his fix.

Good luck dude!

£1440/yr of your hard earned money is better placed by putting it in your savings or buying yourself somethin nice. Think of the gaming rig or big-ass TV that would get ya. Or a wicked-exciting vacation.

Why give it to some company that makes you wanna inhale nicotine all the time.

If it helps any - ages ago my roomie was this one gal who was a lot like you..spending similar amounts on smoking. One day after yet another coughing fit she got mad and flung out all her ciggies. Right there and then she quit cold. Sure it wasnt easy - massive hunger cravings, she got grumpy etc and it lasted about 2 weeks and then she began to settle down and now she hasnt smoked since.

It takes a lot of mental discipline but it can be done, dont throw your health and your £ away.

Unless your all talking non working money, comp up how much of your actual salary you spend i.e. add tax & ni to you monthly spend.

I quit cold turkey after reading Alan Carrs book, my wife gave up and between us we brought a brand new car with the proceeds, it's a mugs game and a dieing habit in more ways than one, I can't see how any intelligent person can continue to smoke.

Good luck you'll feel so much better once you've jacked in :)

Good for you! My uncle quit cold turkey after smoking 3 packs a day for 40 years, so if he could do it anyone can! Hasn't even touched them in 2 years now. (Yes, that's packs of 20, not 10! He would literally smoke while in the shower, and would often get out of the shower halfway through to light another one and get back in!)

Well im been up since 5am and as of yet still not touched a cig, tell ya what though it already bloody killing me, but i made sure last night i didn't buy any so there is none about the house.

Also as i never smoke in the house I have no ashtrays knocking about, so no tempting cig butts to smoke neither lol, as when i finished a cig i usually dip it in a cup of water i have outside then chuck it in the bin.

I just put my first 6 quid into my tin :)

Switch to rollies. I gave up smoking Benson & Hedges about 6 or 7 years ago because of what it was costing me. A 50g pack of Golden Virginia will last me a week and a bit and I'm a heavy smoker. Google calculations puts 12.50 for 52 weeks at £650 or so as opposed to maybe 5 times 365 at nearly 2k, add in you might smoke 40 or 60 on a friday or saturday night while drinking and you easily run over 2k.

Edit: Just looked at 20 bensons and see they're now over 6 quid for 20. That's well over 2k just for 20 a day.

Smoking is becoming a very expensive habit, so much so I've decided the 120 odd quid a month i waste on them can be better served elsewere.

It's got me thinking why do people that smoke, smoke basically to feel normal.

well im not paying over 100 quid anymore just to feel normal.

Few years ago i did pack in for over 8 months but the stress of work got me starting again.

This time it going to be for good... :)

Good for you!!!

Go for it... you need to be in the right frame of mind and have an incentive to work for, new spandangly PC perhaps or a car? By the end of this year you will have saved £1500 approx :D

I would suggest you DO NOT avoid people or places that remind you smoking because you will have to face them in the end. That was were my downfall was, this time I bit my lip and went.

Be the petulant child to yourself when you're thinking 'I need a smoke' say to yourself 'I don't want one'

The gums helped me this time and the thought of a pair of spanking new shoes that cost the earth.

Careful, you eat a lot more, use the money saved to join a gym.

Good Luck and Well Done for making the decision

:D

I have also been planning to knock the ciggies on the head as of today.

Couple of girls in the office are attempting it and I REALLY can't see it happening so thought I had better show them how it's done :D

I started off just smoking while drinking at uni. Used get so frustrated when all my mates would leave me on my own guarding about 10 drinks to dissapear for ages for a smoke. Anyway I have been casual smoking for about 3 years I think but in the last year its started to get worse and Ive been smoking a lot more in the day, at work, etc.

Im hoping im not that addicted yet and never really crave a fag so to speak. I think its a boredom/psychological thing making me want to smoke. Hopefully by simply not having any lying around the house should be enough.

edit: Also the timing is prety good as im currently dying of a chest infection haha
