Tinker time

My main PC is a 5820k, 32GB, 970GTX atx build. I've got an upgrade itch.
I also have a laptop that has a 3600x and 2060 rtx.

My laptop is faster than my PC but I prefer doing everything on my main PC.

So I'm thinking about building a new desktop machine based around the old one, using as much as I can but... I'm considering building an atx rig with the 3600x from the laptop, and putting a 3600 in the laptop (65W TDP vs 95W). The laptop gets silly hot and the battery life is poor.

Am I mad?

If I'm not mad, could anyone recommendations an atx mobo and 64GB RAM to use with the 3600x?

Amd Mobile processer dont work on mainstream motherboards and usually have u after them. The graphics chip is also built into the laptop motherboard.

And laptops have soldered chips to the mainboard as well.

I was under the impression that it was removable! From what I've read, the 3600 doesn't run that much cooler anyway so it'd be a bit pointless.

Can't you enable a low-TDP mode on the laptop CPU, if it's not enabled already?

The 5820K is still pretty competitive, especially if overclocked. 970 GTX is dated though.
