tips for holiday in Toronto & New York

I'm going to Toronto next Saturday for a couple of weeks with wife and 2 young boys, I also planning on booking a Greyhound coach to New York for 4-5 days.

Can people who have been there (Toronto / New York) recommend places to see, things to do, cheap hotels to stay in New York.

Lots of good threads on here for New York.

There's actually a direct train you can take Toronto-New York. America has a terrible rail network and there aren't many trains each day, but the trains themselves are very comfortable, almost certainly nicer than a bus. I did Chicago-DC on Amtrak and it was really quite pleasant, slept well and had a nice chat with the person next to me.

i got an east cost train ticket, went from toronto via niagra to buffalo, to NYC, then to Washington, Memphis, New Orleans, then back up via chicago and detroit and back to Toronto!

id recommend!

I did Tor to NY by greyhound a few years ago, take a good book as the trip took almost 10hrs.

Things to do in Tor include;
Tour of the Skydome, Air Canada Centre and the CN Tower
Hockey Hall of Fame
Explore the PATH system, under the main streets

Yeah 10 hours is the quickest time I can find on the schedules. Going to book one for evening so we can sleep most of it and arrive in NY for the morning.

Train seems to take even longer. Thanks for the ideas.
