I'm thinking about buying this HDTV, as i've been unable to find another TV that offers the same specs and picture quality, aswell as such positive reviews, but i've got a few questions

Is the bleeding backlight on dark scenes/black screens fixed? and how is the TV for motion, like while watching Football? as I will watch a lot of Football on it

Now for my next question, can anyone recommend any better HDTV's in the 40/50" range? i've seen reviews state the 46" version of this Sony TV offers a better picture quality? but i'm not 100% sure if thats true/right? also, I saw a pioneer that offered similar specs, but I cant remember the model number, so preferably i'd like if anyone could tell me of really high end LCD HDTV's in the 40/50" range? mainly for Video Games and Football/Sports, many thanks ;) :p

I did have a 40W2000 but after 2 replacements due to bleeding and buzzing it went back for a refund.

I'm now a proud owner of the new Samsung M87, which is a top class considering it is about £200-£300 cheap than the Sony.

Another bonus is 3xHDMI, 1080p via Component & VGA and finally to me it looks a bit more sleeker. :)

No doubt about it the Sony is an excellent TV and picture quality is top notch but it became a bit of a lottery getting a non cloudy screen.

Does the cloud only affect dark scenes? and was it really THAT noticable? enough to make you want to take it back? :p

i returned mine for the same reason and have gone for the m87 also if it helps ure decision making

Yes the clouding does only affect dark scenes and can be very noticable.
I know it's difficult to get a perfect LCD but for £1300 I didn't want any sort of clouding, which the Samsung M87 provides.

Hmmm thats true, but the reviews really do favour the KDL-40W2000 to be one of the best, if not the best LCD available all around/overall :p

I got my sony kdl40w2000 on tuesday and its simply amazing the picture quailty is class. I dont seem to have any of the clouding problems tho.

Highly recommend

The samsung m87 wasn't around untill just recently so the Sony walked the awards but now, the Samsung seems to offer at least as good as the Sony but significantly cheaper.

Put head to head, a well respected review site couldn't score one above the other so just put the difference to a nice Tosh HD DVD player!

Hmmm well that's interesting, i'll browse around a bit more, I wonder if the KDL-40W2000 problems are fixed now though? like the clouding for example :p, and ideally i'd really like a 100hz 1080p TV with amazing picture quality, but we cant have it all eh :( :p

I have been debating whether to get the SONY/SAMSUNG for 6 weeks now but feel that I might just wait till the 100Hz sets are widely available and affordable!

Trouble is, its just like computers, theres always something worth waiting for just around the corner!

Hopefully my Samsung LE40M86 gets delivered in a few hrs time, I will post a mini review tomorrow when I get in from work etc.

Sorry to hijack a little, I just tried a search, and couldn't find what I was after, so thought that rather than start a new 40W thread, I'd borrow this one.

Quick question... can the 40w do 24p?

I've tried googling, and really can't get an answer.... though most seem to suggest NO, so I'm guessing not.

I only ask, as I have a 40w, with a PS3 connected to it via HDMI, with 24p output selected... ah, oops, just rechecked, the 1080p 24hz output is on automatic. I was going to ask how I can have it "on" and it play ok if the TV doesn't support it. Guess that explains it then.

I guess the answer is no then.

Oh well!
