Generaly speaking most Americans (with the exception of the south) find being called a Yank(ee) perfectly acceptable, much like most people find being called a Brit, Ruski, Aussie just fine.

It's the context a word or nick name is used in that could be offensive, not the shortening of a name (unless I suppose that someone found being called Pakistani offensive in the first place).

In the UK we're very sensitive to this sort of thing, maybe because of our Imperial past which is I guess fair enough to a point. However, I tend to think some people (and i'm not talking specifically about race here) just like to be offended and wring their hands as a profession.

Oh and the OP makes a lot of sense, an eminently pragmatic view which people on both sides of the race argument could do with thinking about.

**** is a more offensive word than the others. You cannot simply say that because they're all shortened names they should be considered equally non-offensive.

Its since just after the 9/11 attacks... When the Police started to patrol the city.

The police have access to a database of each and everyone there... Ever since 9/11 and very much a lot before it, everyone going in and out have had fairly stringent checks. Most tourists are fairly obvious that they are just that, and they will be pretty much left alone, but if anyone looks even slightly shady, they get the 3rd degree.
I have a couple of friends who went to NY to visit their relatives and they got hassled seriously badly. When they got back to their hotel and mentioned it, a fair number of the other guests had been having a similar problem, while I myself went only 2 years ago and had no problems, it may be certain areas I dont know, but there are loads of people who are scared, and the feelign around NY is that it has become too much to handle for a lot of the people who live there.

Just go and open your eyes... Watch some of the many many videos out there that try to ask questions about 9/11 and many other questionable goings on!

Try to ask yourself, why is it that whenever these videos get too close to the Govt, they are all of a sudden pulled from the internet, and most never even make it to the shelves.
Dont go watching one and making up your own narrow mind, try watching a few of them, then see for yourself whether you think its all ramblings of a prat.

just try googling 9/11 and read up on the sites... Sure some say this some, say that, ( Most are absolute BS I will readily admit that ) some rip apart others' breakdowns of the videos, but this is all how it is... Both sides try to prove their own ideas and disprove the others, but when you look at the whole bigger picture, you will start to see that there is definitely something thats a lot more than meets the eye... The US Govt are definitely trying to hide something... If they are completely blameless, then why do they go out of their way to hide some things and lie about others.

Thats all I ask, the evidence is mostly still out there... Its just that the best evidence has been removed by the Govt.

Do you have a sauce for that figure? When you say "NY" are you referring to New York state, New York City, or just Manhattan? A 20% decrease in the number of people living in Manhattan over the past five years, I could believe, although that would have more to do with property prices and trends than anything else.

The only people you are going to have a camera "taken off you" by are security staff operating on private property, or those guarding sites of interest. Regardless, how does having a camera taken off you have any bearing on whether or not a place is becoming a "police state?" The same goes for pretty much any major city.

Far more evidence? I suppose you've read the 9/11 Commision Report? The NIST report on the collapse of the Twin Towers? I suppose you've looked through all the exhibits from the Zacarias Moussaoui trial (openly available online, if you are interested)? There is evidence left, right and centre to support the official story; just because it isn't preached by attention seeking, agenda-toting idiots like Jason Bermas, Dylan Avery and Alex Jones, doesn't mean it isn't there.
