To The Gun Enthusiasts In Here.

Sounds like a bullet that would travel even further, is the ammo hard to get or something

I have one of these

what kind of grouping can you get at that distance, got a picture of the target after firing?

zombie outbreak

with a drum barrel and 36 rounds of explosive shells. Is dragons breath shotgun ammo illegal in the uk, Ive read about a dozen types of shogun shells possible including bean bags and all sorts

Yeah, it's called a Mosin Nagant. :p

But seriously, no.

If in doubt though, give Oleg a shout at rusmilitary.com, if anyone knows, he will.

Out of curiosity, why would you want it chambered in .308? Purely performance?

isnt that just a bolt action rifle  from ww2

The massacre led to the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988,[2] which banned the ownership of semi-automatic centre-fire rifles and restricted the use of shotguns with a magazine capacity of more than two rounds. The Hungerford Report had demonstrated that Ryan's collection of weapons was legally licensed.

The Hungerford Reaction regarding gun laws made no sense at all. At no point did Ryan's rate of fire exceed that which could be achieved casually with a bolt action rifle or with a double barreled shotgun. Hence rate of fire or magazine capacity was of no material significance. As was very sadly proven conclusively recently.

I had a fac with .17hmr however you must have a reason to own one and have suitable land to shoot over. Never heard of weapons from the forces being kept at home. but 308 rifles Yeh fine if you have reason to use it like a club or hunting on suitable land. I'm nearly 2 miles away from a mod base where they fire

Yes, but I want something that doesn't shatter my shoulder when its fired. :p

It is just simpler and cheaper. for .308. I can get it for 9 quid for 20 rounds in the gun club

Can you legally use an Accuracy International AW in the UK? That is a rifle I'd love to own and shoot.

I never realised Bolt Action Sniper Rifles were possible to own in this country

Does this mean the L96A1 as used by the Troops In Afghanistan is perfectly legal to be owned by a civilian in the UK with the appropriate firearms license ?

An L96 is a legal rifle to own on a section 1 licence but as said you will pay a lot of money for it. They are the Rolls Royce of precision rifles and a good model with a fluted heavy barrel will set you back around 4 grand.

An AW rifle chambered for .338 will set you back a small fortune as well although they are legal to own.

what sort of excuse do you use for needing a sniper rifle when you apply for your license ?

I shoot on MoD ranges from 100-600 metres and shooting with a club on a regular basis is usually enough.

Not a valid reason I'm afraid although I'm sure there was no sarcasm intended in your post ?

At kwerk. Thanks very much for that link.

Wow that is expensive . I did read something somewhere about fitting another rifle action into the AW stock which was a lot cheaper, but I'd imagine nowhere near as good as the real thing.

I would love to get into shooting and someday own something like that though. I only live 2 mins away from a club so would be able to shoot every weekend, so the cost of the rifle would be worth it.

yes, you can fit a Remington M700 Action to an Accuracy International AICS stock kit.

remember, even if you spend £5000 on a rifle, you're not going to see the benefit unless you spend another £5000 on your scope.

the rule of thumb is; "never spend less on your scope then you did on your rifle"

i'd recommend nothing less than a Leupold, Zeiss or Schmidt & Bender on a fine rifle like an AI AW, AWP or AWM.

It costs about $130 for a box of 20 .338 lapua cartridges.

well yeah, the .338 lapua magnum round is one of the most expensive rounds in the world, even in the US it's prohibitively expensive.

most AI rifles are chambered in .308"/7.62x51 NATO which is practically free in comparison.

C'mon guys, the last thing I need right now is another expensive hobby... :)

Shoot clay pigeon instead. Way more fun with moving targets!

Any old drainpipe that you can stick a 12G shell down and hear a bang will do, and its far more fun than all this 'scopes and breathing drills' malarky :p

Real wood pigeon decoying > clay pigeon shooting

Clay pigeon shooting > rifle target shooting

stalking live game (rabbits/foxes) with a rifle > clay pigeon shooting

This is my preferences :D
