To upgrade or not to upgrade

Do you reckon I should upgrade my sig to the Conroe E6600 Nv 7950 or wait for the next gen cards!!!

My son is in desperate need for an upgrade, Prey is killing his system. I would like to give him mine but don't know whether I should wait for the next gen cards to be released...

He could wait...as he has his 360 to play, but Im wondering whether it would be viable to buy now or hold out till Sept/Nov.

I want this, with maybe one or two changes:

A bit of a different suggestion here but why don't you let your son play Prey on your system until DX10 cards are out if you want one that much?

If you can't/don't want to wait then from the little I know of Conroe systems that ought to be fine

Maybe wait for quad-core goodness from Kentsfield along with DX10 cards.

Does anybody know when Kentsfield is penciled-in for release?

I just dont want to get caught up in the "wait till something better comes along" notion. I have always bought what is current without worrying of impending changes in the latest tech.

This time however there seems to be a whole lot of tech being released around the same time which is leading me; on this occasion, to change my attitude somewhat.

I could let my son play the game on my machine, he just prefers to have his own space and to do his own thing. He said he will wait to play the game when I upgrade and hand over my machine....not only that, there is never a time when I away from my PC long enough for him to use it. Hence why I can justify spending so much money on my PC equipment.

Anyway, having read other opinions from different forums, I have decided to wait until the release of Geforce 8 cards, or indeed the next ATI card if they come out with something that betters Nv next gen.
