ToCA Race Driver 3

Toca 2 on the psx rocked...especially the first corner at silverstone where half the cars went off the track...

been playing 3 since friday now, gotta say I really enjoy it. Got it all maxed out on 1024x768 with 2x and I think it looks brill....

Theres no problem with Starforce providing your only playing legitimate games, all the people moaning that games dont work is because they are trying to use other programs to emulate drives at the same time.

Or the problems come from users with X64 not being able to play games which they paid for due to a seriously disgusting piece of software.

lol, nope it certainly isn't, Starforce on the other hand... :(
Think it works now but that doesn't help for games released before the newer starforce drivers were out, questionable workarounds have to be used to play your games...

Got this game on friday and it seems pretty decent (although I'm no expert on driving games). Got a couple of ps style pads and trying to play multiplayer spilt screen. However only seems you can control one of the screens (namely the one of the player's whose profile is loaded at the time.

The manual mentions pressing start at car selection - however you dont map a start button at any point(guessing the manual is mainly just a copy of the PS2 manual where this might actually work). Has any one any idea how to get this to actually work.

Apart from this the rest seems pretty reliable even if very consoley!

The worlds most arcady simulator. If they didnt class it as a sim then i wouldnt mind, but its about as realistic as me having nuts the size of melons.

Id rather have R Factor or Netkar myself.

I totally agree. I watched a video for this game and I was just shocked by what the driver was able to do.

rFactor is probably the nearest game as it's varied (especially with the mods. The game was kinda built to be modded).

I don't mind people playing arcadey racing games, as long as nobody uses the word 'sim' or 'simulation'. For a sim I'd recommend :GT Legends, rFactor, GTR, Richard Burns Rally.

At the Autosport 2006 show in January they had quite a few consoles and wheels etc set up with TRD3 on to advertise it as, "As real as it gets" etc.

I quite literally went "hahahahaha - suuuuuure". :D

But, yeah. I did enjoy TRD2 and probably will enjoy this, always good for a laugh with mates. Whereas LFS etc takes some getting used to.

it depends on how you think about 'sim', you could argue that the fast paced action/able to do silly manoeuvres etc makes it a 'sim' because it gets you in to the 'racing mode', gives you the buzz blah blah
realistic...it is not...RFactor F1C etc are all more realistic but still just a game so it's a bit of a pointless argument anyway lol

p.s anyone having problems with online games, seems to take an age to decide whether it's going to let me join a game, and i cant cancel when it takes ages, just got to wait for it to say 'failed', works fine when it DOES join....

Anyone got a Dual Core AMD cpu and running this? (or rd2 for that matter) I'm having very stuttery game play and the same thing is happening in menus too.

So far I've found advice to turn on the lock frame rate option on the advanced gfx settings, which has slowed the menu screens down to normal, but I don't see why I shoul dhave to in effect slow down my gfx card.

I've also been advised to install the AMD dual core cpu driver which I've just done. This has helped but it's still not as it should be. The only other ting which was suggested was to turn off one of the cores for the game and it will run ok. Anyone know how to do this?

Nick

^ maybe also try turning down hardware sound acceleration in dxdiag, to 'basic'.. Codemasters games are notorious for stuttering with some systems and sound cards when it's set to 'full'.

I've ordered the game but for the Xbox where there'll be no stuttering, Starforce or any of that crap ;)

Hi, I was havinging similar problems on my dual core system with another racing game (Rfactor) and also EQ2 as well as a few other games. After checking the web I found the following three things helped resolve most of my problems and for what it's worth my x2 4400 runs this game fine without having to run it off one core or change any of the game settings.

1). Install the latest AMD drivers from http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9706,00.html
If your running XP non 64bit version then it's version 1.2.2.2 you need to download. I know you said you already did this, but it's worth double checking you have the latest version.

2). Install a Microsoft hotfix (kb896256 only for SP2) and apply the registry changes as described in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=896256

The patch isn't available for download directly from microsoft unless you get in touch with them, or you can download it from my site here:

http://www.sparkyweb.com/WindowsXP-KB896256-v3-x86-ENU.exe

3). check your boot.ini and ensure that the switch /usepmtimer is on the end your [operating system] line, for example mine is:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer

make sure the only change you make is to add the switch on the end though.

Alternativly if thats all bit much, just run it off one core, to do this start the game and get to the main menu screen, alt+tab to your desktop and launch taskmanger, click on the processes tab, find the RD3.exe process (you can click on 'image name' to filter the processes alphabetically), right click on RD3.exe and select 'Set Affinity' and then untick one of the CPU's, usually I untick CPU 1.

Please note you do this all at your own risk ;) I can only tell you that I found that after doing these three things I've had a lot less trouble with my dual core in general.

played the demo and it was awful, the worse handling game I have played for a long time.

Will stick with LFS and GTR/GT Legends

Anyone had any problems with their Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP wheel?

My game runs 3 times as fast and it's totally, totally unplayable. It's fine when i'm not using the wheel but I refuse to play this game with a keyboard.

I think it's the wheel that is the problem, although when the wheel is configured and i go to change my name, instead of my usual MFC, I get MMMMMFFFFFFCCCCCCCC instead.

You got a dual core cpu?
