At the moment.
It's kind of hard to do much practical when the Representatives of the NRA will block anything you propose that might cut down on the number of slaughtered children.
You don't need to ban guns completely. You just need to regulate them properly. That's why every other Western country has a far lower firearm crime rate than the US.
Most of those are accidental or suicide.

Do you always make contrarian ass comments. America is insane when it comes to guns, any potential solution is shot down by the usual crowd and then more people die in mass shootings.
It doesn't help that the right stoke the belief that these mass shootings are not real either see Alex Jones.
Not just the NRA as the Democrats are totally against gun reform as is the Supreme court.
Caught a small part of an interview with a David Burnett who thinks more responible people in America should be armed particularly teachers which he says would make this sort of tragedy less common, but there is a big difference firing a gun on a range than when an armed person is firing at you.
I can't imagine trying to raise a child in America with them having to do shooter drills regularly with the risk of an actual soft-minded weirdo going on a rampage being perceived as higher to the extent that it's a shared psychosis that everyone is traumatised by.
The UK has it's own problems with knives obviously, but I think it's mostly limited to gang-related stupidity with the rare occasion when it's not so avoiding it is easier and a lot of the country just doesn't experience it (to the chagrin of the trash tabloids).

Now we’ll get the usual arguments - people screaming for gun control, whilst the NRA are filling the pockets of politicians with cash whilst wanting to arm everyone with more guns.
We’ll get the obligatory mugshot and name of the killer, with some nonsense about him - whilst the media circle-jerk over the whole thing from start to finish.
At the end of this, they’ll be no further along, if they can’t see where the problems are by now, they never will.

Just the fact the passing consideration of sending your kids to school with Kevlar isn't as ludicrous as it should be is kind of chilling.
Interestingly I saw several (US) people on social media tonight speaking out in support of having the same age restriction (21) for the purchase of firearms (other than low powered stuff) as the drinking age in the states, and distancing themselves from the NRA, who previously wouldn't hear a word for any kind of firearms controls. Though in many of these shootings the weapons have been taken from an older family member, etc.
EDIT: Also support for proficiency testing, etc. from people who've previously been very against it.

The US seems to have a propensity for these kind of events which is not proportional to firearms availability compared to most other countries.
