too much boost

ok after we finaly got my bros scoob back together its now turning out massive boost before it was 0.7 now it chucking out over 1.5 and i think he is getting boost cuts from overboosting car will go well untill boost pod goes off the dial then it stops and carnt go any faster like a jerk, now is their any way he can turn down his boost manualy while he waits for funds for a boost controler?

Adjust the wastegate so it opens earlier?

Will the manual controller work?

I thought that only works for increasing boost past the Wastegates setting, I.E. the wastegate sees a lower pressure than what is actually being generated, didn't think you could set a lower value on the Manual valve and get the wastegate to close sooner than it is set to?

Doesn't it also flatten out the boost to give you less spike?
It's not something stupid like hitting the limiter is it?
 
There must be a wastegate problem and a boost controller isnt going to sort it out as boost controllers dont adjust boost below wastegate pressure.. Fix the wastegate so it opens when its supposed to, unless you fitted an uprated turbo with an uprated actuator in which it might need adjusting.
 
no its only getting to 4krpm then it gets a cut, we thaught it was because he had too low flow injectors (still std), but a lad told him yesterday that its probly overboosting if its getting over 1.5 of boost
theirs still a few things he needs to buy yet like bigger injectors boost contoler apex fc ect still its damn fast just wont go past 4k
 
well he went from a ej20 to a ej25 us sti short block port and polished heads and a phat header exaust ported turbo too

Sounds like you're hitting fuel cut. As Dogbreath says whats been changed to make it boost more ?
 
ohh he also got a different ecu from someone some colin mcray 555 ecu or something

i know he has got bigger injectors on the way should arrive next week but i dont think they will be big enough wich i told him, they are 440cc he has std uk turbo ones in atm

i gtg now so al get back to this thread later

i had this on a leggy twin turbo, it was a piddly little vacume pipe that had cracked and i had the same symptoms
 
You can adjust the boost from 'manually' from the actuator... but you ideally need to get the car setup by a professional....

Just what I was thinking. Check the pipes and the vacumn pipes especially as if one is disconnected or leaking your turbo will boost unlimited amounts of PSI until the point one of the safety features kicks in to prevent excessive detonation
 
cheers lads we sorted the problem a vacume pipe had come off and its now boosting to a more reasonable 1.1 and the cut out at 4k has gone i haven been in it yet but bro says its unreal lol will see tonight can you confirm this for us please

he is gonna buy an apexi power fc + the commander is their any point in getting a boost controller ? he says the commander can change the boost level through the hand held is this so? if not theirs a apexi avc-c controller on the bay asking 100 snots is it worth it? or any good for that matter?
