That is a bit of a sweeping generalisation there. I cycle as well as drive, but I stick to the side of the road for the majority of the time. Infact in that scenario, I can't stand car drivers who seem to think I need to be passed as if I were as wide as a car.

Secondly, coming down the A537 (cat & fiddle road in macclesfield for those who know it), I was catching cars up on my mountain bike, did they think to stop cutting corners and get out of the way? No.

Its just that almost every cyclist that ive come across have been riding at about 30kph in 110kph zone and have been 2 riders side by side in the center of the lane.
They didnt even pull to the side when i was driving behind them and couldnt pass due to on coming cars

Holy moly! You mean the cyclists were not doing the speed of powered vehicles? Shock-horror, I think I need to lie down.

Perhaps you don't have enough patience to be on the road?

(However in the UK it is against the highway code to cycle two-abreast. Not sure if this is the case in Oz, but it may well be. This would be your only valid point in the post tbh).

There is still no need to ride and take up the entire lane and not let me through.
It wouldnt bother me if the were to the side of the road but to ride in the center of the lane when cars are behind them

Edit: just so you know they wernt riding hard. they are usually just riding and pedaling slowly sitting up and chatting

2 cyclists nearly got killed last night on my way to work.

The road i travel on is very windy and not very well built with negative camber and bumps/holes everywhere. Even in a well balanced sports car you will struggle to drive the road over 60mph.

Coming through quite a hazardous piece of road i notice 2 cyclists coming towards me, side-by-side. I think "planks" and carry on, around the next bend is a white van coming towards me, driving too fast for the road. Luckily i had the windows down so i flashed and signalled for him to slow down which he did. Had i not thought to warn him there is no way he could have slowed enough to avoid the cyclists!

You mean using a bicycle as a form of relaxation/fun/recreation rather than a means of transport? Wow, that is twice in one thread you have made me fall off my chair in shock.

And in that situation, the van driver is to blame anyway. If you know that the road is dangerous to drive "above 60", and given that NSL on a single carriageway is 60, then perhaps it was you and the van driver who were "planks".

Perhaps you can go take a running jump, but not before telling me why im the plank??

I was doing 40mph, nice a safe. The can driver was doing about 55-60mph which is still under the speed limit. The cyclists however where riding side-by-side on a dangerous road that is very windy and narrow. The van driver could easily of swerved around them if the where riding one in front of the other, as it was he would have killed at least one of them had i not of slowed him down.

Only people here doing anything wrong where the cyclists!!

Ive nothing against cyclists and the only reason i thought plank was because it was too dangerous to ride that way on this road.

Just the way you came across made it sound like you drive the road above 60 (seeing as you know its hard to do). And you said yourself the van driver was "driving too fast for the road".

That in my eyes at least makes the van driver the "plank". Sure the cyclists were riding two abreast (which is dumb i'll admit). And im sorry if you were indeed driving under the limit and I called you a plank, its just the way you came across.

He also upset environmental group Greenpeace by saying he had 'wet dreams' about one of their ships sinking, prompting Ben Stewart of Greenpeace to brand him: "a class-A muppet and absolute plonker."
:D:D:D

Yes, i thought that van driver was a plank too, at 60 in a van he must have been wallowing all over the place. I have to slow to 20 for some bends in the golf and even in my Corrado i could never drive the bends above 50mph safely.

Reading back i understand why you thought that :) no problems :D
