Top 5 war films?

Mine would be...in no particular order...

Saving Private Ryan (if only for the jaw dropping, non-blinking first 20 minutes).
Kelly's Heroes (Donald Sutherland :D).
Band of Brothers (a series yes, but like a 10 hour film).
Platoon (definitely the best vietnam film).
A Bridge Too Far (every top actor of the time in it, came so close to ending the war early).

There are others, but that's my top 5 atm :)

City of God

One of the best war films ever.

And no, I'm not explaining why it a war film.

I've just looked it up as I'd never heard of it and it says it's a Brazilian crime drama film. If this is the same film then the plot looks like it's a gang warfare type thing.

I think the OP is asking for your top 5 war films, as in war, as in World War 2 or Vietnam or something.

Don't get me wrong, it was great. But after seeing death like that again and again it gets to you. Plus we could all switch it off and probably still recite it all in time order.

Yeah I can imagine that. One of the things that makes the opening sequence so good is how realistic it looks imo. Apparently, even the vets said it was the closest they'd seen to the real thing.

The end sequence is good too, with the noise of the tanks coming, and the bit where the plane comes in, especially if you're watching it with a nice sound system. I remember the first time I watched it I just couldn't believe how good it was. Like I say, I think I sat with my mouth agape for the whole film :D

  1. Full Metal Jacket
  2. Kelly's Heroes
  3. Starship Troopers
  4. Saving Private Ryan
  5. The Great Escape
There are numerous others but I thought I'd throw in a few that haven't already been mentioned.
