Yup, almost documentary like, no glamorisation of the two sides, a wonderful study of a conflict with a great score from Ennio Morricone. One of the war greats.

Having only five choices is so hard, I could easily stretch to fifteen.
 
1. A Bridge Too Far
2. Lawrence Of Arabia
3. Thin Red Line
4. Bridge Over The River Kwai
5. Patton

Honourable mention must go to Band of Brothers even though it's a series. Hopefully the Pacific theatre series they're making will be fit to be compared to it, but that'll be a tall order.
 
Did i miss something in Apocalypse Now? i swear the last hour or so was a dude talking complete gibberish.. i had no idea what was going on towards the end of that film, and i watch a fair amount of anime so am well versed in plots that go completely bat**** crazy at the end

Blackhawk down is easily my favourite war film, everything about that film is masterfully well done

Also the classics that are saving private ryan, we were soldiers, platoon, full metal jacket

Glad to see someone put starship troopers, i also love that film for some mindless alien killing,

Enemy at the gates is quite a good film, top 10

I love a good war film and must have at least 50 in my DVD collection.

Hamburger Hill

I think if you asked me the same question tomorrow, I would have a different top five…lol :D
