DailyTech reports that Toshiba plans to release the SpursEngine, a new PC graphics chip based on the design of the Cell processor that powers Sony's Playstation 3 console. The SpursEngine uses only four cores instead of the Cell's eight core and will have hardware for decoding and encoding MPEG-2 and H.264 video. Toshiba plans to demo the processor at the CEATEC JAPAN 2007 conference next week.
