Tour de France - 2007

Hmmm dont really understand this, its the Tour de France but yet it starts in London UK which the last time i checked isnt part of France...or are we??. Kinda stupid and pointless if you ask me, would have been more apt if it was the Tour de Europe or something but Tour de France in UK??...makes a mockery of the sport imho.

it also passes through Belgium and Holland AFAIK and always has, The London start is just to up the publicity i guess

You have to pay big bucks to get the tour de france to come through your town and a strt/finish cost even more. london will have paid as the publicity, tourism it brings outwieghs the initial cost.

Has been through germany, belgium, holland, luxembourg in recent times on one or more stages.

Wiggins for the prologue....seems like a clean guy to me, unlike Millar

Was thinking of popping to Royal Tonbridge Wells tomorrow to watch as it passes through.
As far as i'm concerned it's the greatest sporting event the world has got, will snap a few while i'm there.

:)

Millar is clean now, he's served his time with dignity and has never shyed away from owning up to his wrongdoing.
Time to give him a chance ?

If he stays clean, I believe respect for him will return. And deservedly so. But cheating's cheating and he's still in my bad books a little.

I went to see the prologue this afternoon. Went on my skates so managed to make it all the way round the course during the afternoon. Really great atmosphere, could have done with some more foot bridges tho, the queues in Hyde Park were massive. Surprisingly quiet on Whitehall for the start, plenty of gaps to stand right by the track. Got a crappy mobile pic of Brad Wiggins on the start...

I got a better picture of Wiggins! :D

Was a really great day - good weather and got a good spot (bridge over the Serpentine).

Undecided about going to watch tomorrow tho... at least today you saw riders over the course of 3 hours or so, tomorrow they'll all be gone in a flash!

On the insistence of my girlfriend, there are more pictures on her flickr page here, tho I took 'em all! :)

Absolutely amazing ride by Cancellara today, what a beast  Unfortunately even with Wiggins probably in the form of his life he never really stood a chance :( Nevertheless, it was a fantastic day with some great racing :)

You can't be serious  As others have said the TdF passes through other countries pretty much every year and it is a great honour for a town to simply host a stage start/finish never mind the prologue and start of the race itself. I think it's fantastic that the Tour came to London.

You don't say (IMG_4253 ;)). Nice pics though!

Get the the mountain stages the race comes into it's own. Just wish it got more TV coverage. Alpe d'Huez who said cycling is for wimps?

It's due to pass through where I live in the next hour or so (Gillingham, Kent) might pop down and take a look, there's naff all else to do since most of the roads are closed.

I would love to pedal up Alp d'huez just to see what it's like......must be tough if Lance Armstrong complained about it (Mountain stage ended there 2004 I think)

But cheating's cheating and he's still in my bad books a little. All quotes

Come on guys, give him a chance! Millar is only one of dozens of cyclists over the years who have 'cheated.' I've no doubt that more 'cheats,' in cycling have got away with it than have got caught!

In any case, if you look at sport in general, cheating is commonplace. Have YOU never cheated, not even just a little?
