Im still pondering over future replacement for my Pug 306gti in 2011,

I made a thread a while ago which was very helpful covering Clio 182s and the likes. However part of me would like a larger car again.

I remember working with a guy who had an is200 and it was a lovely car, very quiet and smooth running.

This has given me the interest in the Altezza, as it looks better and its performance should be similar to that of my Peugeot so I wont feel Im losing anything.

They seem to cost 4k-5.5k on pistonheads.

This looks like a great example (obviously Im not looking to buy now)

just to give you an Idea.

Whats your opinions on these? too expensive compared to alternatives?

ah yeah I just noticed them white screws/studs along the skirt, I dunno mate :0/

I actually quite like these, very smooth quiet ride in them, much better than a 3 series around the same price. The biggest problem with the IS200 is its underpowered, you need the IS300 ideally, or the one you linked to should also be fine.

The RS200 has a revvy vtec-esque 4-pot, which seems a strange choice in a 'luxury' saloon, however they are apparently great fun to drive (two of my friends have owned one and both loved them).

Rear leg room is a bit rubbish and the build quality is a touch worse than what really what you'd expect from a "Lexus".

And as already stated, the engine choice is a bit odd. If you can stomach an automatic go for the IS300 :).

Totally the wrong engine for this sort of car, get an IS300 instead.

I kind of agree. I did briefly look at RS200's a while ago, but they're just... slow?

You'd be better off with a 182 i think.

Thanks for the input guys, I guess its not such an interesting idea afterall :D

ill probably end up with an xtype jag or sommit lol

They are ok, as long as you don't mind wringing it's neck to make it go, they don't really sound that great either being a 4 pot. The IS300 is the better option, same power and performance with a much more refined engine.

but would you get a rs200 or an as200?

the rs runs the yamaha beams engine (4pot) the as comes with the 6 pot lovely cars either wayt

IIRC the IS300 doesnt exist in Japan, and this was a JDM import.

That explains why it exists, doesn't explain why anyone would bother to import one!

Never understood the point of these when the IS300 exists. Can anyone enlighten me?

It was availablein Japan but only as the sportwagon type chassis.

Apparently they are very much a different drive, one's a higher capacity cruiser the other a high revving 4 pot, different strokes for different folks.

They aren't really like the IS200, it's alltogether more sporty. It has a cammy NA engine, so it will reward you for driving it hard. If this isn't your driving style then you probably won't like it.
