Toyota iQ

Saying that, I do not see the Aygo as a true Toyota either, as realistically is part of the Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech group.

It's still pretty much a Toyota, the floorpan was designed by Toyota, the running gear is Toyota, and the factory they are built in uses Toyota based standards, of course it is partly run with PSA, only difference really is cosmetics.

I really like the iQ, but between that and the Aygo, I'd go for the Aygo, better value, looks better IMO, slightly bigger and they are good fun around town. To me they are sort of like the modern day 'peoples car', but unfortunately for most by todays standards they are probably too 'basic'.

If you don't 'get' the iQ you just need to drive one back to back with an Aygo. I'm not saying the Aygo is a bad car - far from it in fact, it's great - it's just that the iQ is a far more grown up and refined car. This is why it targets a slightly different segment, those people who only need or want a small car but still want a higher quality product than the usual Ka, Corsa or Aygo.

It's not a car that's built around value for money or the maximum practicality. The fact that it's as practical as it is goes to show the worth of the innovative engineering that went into the product.

Think of it as a Lexus with a Toyota badge on it.

You're trying to ask OcUK Motors to understand why someone would choose a small car over a big car. That is a very big ask.

Back on topic. Ok, so essentially the iQ is a more refined alternative to the 107/C1/Aygo which are essentially very basic cars. So if you want the small footprint but not the basic spec of the alternatives then it looks pretty favourable. Alternatives are what, the Smart?

hey guys
i had my toyota iq for 2 years now and its a great little run around, I see it as a little city car and it does the job. The fact its zero road tax is a great feeling when it comes round to renew. I had a fiesta st before i got one of these and i dont regret it at all.
I got given a aygo while mine was in the shop and i thought it was horrible to drive, it was automactic tho.

Road tax is not really a reason I would be put off buying a car. You can get a 2L BWM diesel that had only £30 road tax too, do you put that in the same basket when choosing a car if you were looking at Smart/IQ?

I've driven an Aygo in manual twice, it just feels gutless, needs revving to get going and everything feels so plastic! And that's coming from a Yaris, not an Audi.

I have had an IQ for 18 months and it has been great.
I do about 7,000 a year and mainly town driving with some journeys upto 25 miles each way.
I would go for one that has 5 warranty I was lucky mine just qualified i believe it cars after july 2010.
Auto express this week are doing a buying guide
I have saved 50% on fuel and insurance.
It feels like a big car and on Motorways it is fine.
I have a 1 litre and it is not fast but you can keep up with traffic.
You may have to change down on inclines but it is no issue.
I have been impressed by my local dealer.
Mine is a IQ2 and so it has all the gizmos and full climate control and 9 airbags.
I looked at Aygo but the IQ is like a Lexus.
I am keeping mine for 5 years and I will get another one.

Will deffo check that out, thanks man. Will probably go for the iQ2, what extras does it actually have? And do the iQs have xenons?

That's because that is exactly what the Aygo is.

It is gutless, it is plastic.

The MMT Aygo is woeful, in fact the MMT box in any Toyota is rubbish.

The interior is horrendous but I thought the 1litre 3 pot pretty impressive for a small town car. No it isnt a motorway cruiser but it is more than adequate for town and country lane driving and thats coming from someone that owns a 330bhp and a 275bhp car

Just out of curiosity...if asking a garage about the SH and HPI etc of a car, could they lie or would it be a big problem if you found out that they were lying?

I sign the finance documents for my iQ on Friday (hopefully collect on the weekend!). Im just being a bit of a paranoid android about it, I'm always the same with new cars!

The service history you should be able to see for yourself, it should have stamps from the garage that serviced it and usally the stamp has their phone number on it so you can call them to verify if you're particularly paranoid.

If the garage says it's HPI clear then it would be a problem for them if it turned out to be incorrect, and again you can check this yourself by paying for a HPI check.

Agreed, if you haven't already seen the history then make sure it's with the car before you take it away - if it's not there then don't take the car and don't accept the "we'll get a printout and post it to you" age old excuse as it will never happen.

If you have seen the history and noted which garage it had mostly been taken to then give them a call and ask what work has been carried out - they should give you the information without issue (just don't mention you aren't quite the new owner). All this will do is confirm the stamps are real, which they will be on a toyota IQ

With regards to HPI most if not all garages will show you the report on request - I asked for a quick look at mine when I bought my car last year, infact I might have been given a copy of it too. If they lied about it being HPI clear you could take them to the cleaners

Thanks for the replays guys, I will contact them today to make sure all is well, and double check the stamps in the book before signing the details. They say they will also service the car before collection, don't know if this is a good or bad thing lol!!!

I take it you're not buying from Toyota? They say service but in reality what they'll do is drop the oil and change the filters. Certainly not a bad thing though at least you know the oil is fresh

At 17K wouldn't think it would need a lot more anyway.

Congrats on the IQ though OP, good choice, far better than the Aygo.
